Air Force Bashing

My dad was in the air force a long time ago. When people ask him if he was in the military (DOD Civi now) he says "no, I was in the air force". I've lived on both army and air force bases and air force bases kick the crap out of army ones. One of my teachers in high school said that when the air force is building a base they build the food court, bowling alley, movie theater, and indoor pools until they run out of money and then ask for more money going "crap, we forgot to build a runway!"

We flew into a Marine base for an excersise few years back. Off the top of my head I cant remember what base it was, but it was depressing just being on it! They tried bunkng us up 4 to a room, but we immediately raised the crew rest flag. We ended up with our own room, thank God! Screw that, Im not sleeping in the same room with the same folks I must put up with on the jet for 10 hours!! The marines and the Army can keep their tents, and bunks, just give me the 5 star room somewhere on the Med.

You know, speaking of ASVAB scores, I had a fairly high one, but all the recruiters ever suggested was that I forget about college, go enlisted and become a mechanic.

Are there extra points for recruiting an enlisted mechanic or something? I mean, no offense to anyone who's a present or former enlisted mechanic, but telling a bright-eyed, AP-class high school student to bypass college and enlist is a little weird.

I wouldn't think this was due to racism. The two career fields the Air Force has typially been very short on throughout the years are Linguists and Mechanics. He was probably just trying to fill highly undermanned slots. I may be wrong but I do believe they get more numbers towards thier quotas if they sign up someone into these two career fields rather than signing them up to any of the other career fields.

mtsu_av8er, you seem to be brain washed very easily... Mind if I send some Mormon missionaries to your house?

(I know I probably just offended a lot of Mormons on this forum, but hey, I use to be Mormon so I am entitled to Mormon smack talk.)

I have to re-read the whole thread, but I don't think I alluded to racism.

But I will tell you that I was a selfish 16 year old and I went to the recruiter not to see what I could do for the military, I more or less went there to see what they could do for me and the fields that they were suggesting were ones which I had zero interest in.

LOL...never that. I actually did all three of the discussions with the missionaries before I told them they were full of it, and that they'd better leave, and that gay porn would be on the TV if they ever came back....

Sickbird, it all comes down to this. I've gotten kicked out of more than a few Air Force Enlisted clubs for beating the heck out of those funny looking geeks with glasses. Heck, we used to make it a Saturday night event to go to the "Airman Club" (On Kadena) to pick up on the Air Force girls. Well, some little smart punk would try to challenge us, and we'd start a brawl.

They had a nice base, but they couldn't fight for crap, that's for sure... They always have to call the M.P.'s to defend themselves.

Isn't that something? Military men calling the M.P.'s for self defense? Sleep tight, America! Air Force standing guard!!

Oh, and the fear of weapons...don't let me start in on that one!!

Brainwashed? Hmmm, call it what you'd like. I've been around the block a few times, and I respect the he11 out of the Air Force. They do a kick-a$$ job at what they do. I just hope a couple of Cub Scouts don't get angry and try to steal an airplane, armed with sling-shots. Air Froce isn't exactly known for marksmanship.....

Well as long as you are happy with the decisions you make in life is all that really matters. I am very happy I chose the Air Force, and you are happy you chose the Marines. But you can't tell me the best job in the world would be piloting F-14's, 15's, 16's, 22's, and 117's. That is what it is really all about.

But seriously, you let them give you 3 discussions??? I always win them over at the door with a quick "[censored] off!"

F-14's are Navy...;)

And, yeah...I thought the discussions were pretty interesting! I even went to the church, went to a baptism (not mine) and checked out the whole scene!!

I always like to base my bashing on some first-hand experience!!

You know, kinda like the whole Native American thing...???

There was a British squadron of Harriers at my base last month and those jets did not impress me very much. They fly slow, and look kind of homely.

No CAS???? What the........ If you really want to split skulls(craniums as mikeD probably says;)) close up the A-10 is the way to go!

MTSU- Yeah there are some geeky folks in the AF, but with all the technology it goes with the territory.Luckily I wasnt in Kadena one of those nights!!!! I would have sent some Marine's home on stretchers
wink.gif

P.S. In my young days, at a certain base with very little privacy I would take girls into the Marine HQ bathrooms at night! The facility was closed, but boy was I scared to get caught by a group of Marines walking in there!!! I bet they would have killed me. A Air Force guy using their bathroom like a cheap hotel!!

Is there really that much of an inter-service rivalry?

Sheesh!

Holy smokes - that comment explains a lot! Being proud of beating up on "funny looking geeks?"

Sounds like there's a military branch full of pointy-hatted boys that need to outgrow the Junior high school bully mentality.

Don't forget, most Airmen aren't front-line fighters by design. Like I alluded to earlier, they often function in a fairly protected environment by others who are trained to fight directly. That's teamwork on a large scale if you think about it. It's the 21st century; you aren't gonna win a war without the "geeks" nowadays.

On the other side of the coin, you aren't going to win a war without a group of mentally immature, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing Gomer Pyles who will help shield the USAF glasses-wearing "Bill Gates" workers as they do their jobs. So I guess we'll keep you Marines around for a little longer...
