Air Canada turbulence

All I can say is...thank goodness it wasn't an RJ in the article (although I'm sure it happens all the time). Everybody on this board would be screaming bloody murder. If it were a freight dog it wouldn't happen because they're to smart to have passengers, if it were a 19 hundo they would have barrel-rolled around the turbulence....If it's big equipment we guess it's the autopilot and thank our lucky stars that it's not another mainline jet going bye-bye. If it had been an RJ it would have been a combo of bad climb performance/low time FO that caused the clear air turb!!! <rant over>

Knocked out, or turned off?

The AP probably disengaged itself when it hit the turbulence. That must have been one hell of a ride. Ive heard during severe turbulence your coming out of that seat belt if its not tightened.
