Agi, igi, bgi

What is the difference between an AGI, an IGI and a BGI and which do you need when you are instructing with ATP/FBO? All I know is what they stand for.

AGI - can sign off on ground instruction for any aeronautical rating (except instrument)
IGI - can sign off on ground instrument instruction
BGI - waste of time, since the AGI test isn't really any harder. I'm not even sure what the limitations are, as I don't know anyone that has it.

If you hold the equivalent CFI cert, you don't really need any of them, unless you want the gold seal...

BGI for signing-off on ground instruction for sport/recreational and private pilot. :D

BGI used to be very useful and popular back in donkey years ago.

This sentence could be true for those who wish to obtain gold seal.

However, GI ratings are valuable in many ways. Many overseas flying schools require (foreign) instructors to be certitifed inorder to teach on ground.

The moral of this post is BGI, AGI and IGI are useful.

BGI keeps you from doing a commercial ground school.

No flight school I know of requires these certificates to work for them.

I got my IGI because it gave me college credit.
I did the same for the AGI and because of the Gold Seal, as said above.

Yeah, I did my AGI/IGI too, since you are studying nearly the same material for the CFI/CFII ratings. Not sure if I will ever use them, but it could be useful down the road. If you lost your medical you could always ground instruct somewhere.

All G.I.

Yup! Nearly the same! In fact, it is even more!

For AGI and IGI, I studied all. Including helicopter.

Not sure if I will ever use them, but it could be useful down the road.
Believe me, it is going to be useful some time down the road.

If you lost your medical you could always ground instruct somewhere.
Yup! You have the point.

In another words, drunkenbeagle is indirectly discouraging AviationInspiration! :D

Not discouraging, just pointing out that the money is better spent towards the FLIGHT instructor ratings. By all means, get the AGI/IGI if you want another piece of plastic.

Also, ground instructor ratings do not have the recordkeeping requirements that flight instructor ratings have.
