I want to get an AGI and AGII.
Any suggestions as far as study guides?
Thank you in advance....
You're right. See? I posted that I needed help!!I think the thread should read AGI or IGI - 61.213 / 61.215
Sheppard air. I think it's like $25 and they give discounts for returning peeps, i.e. if you do your atp with them too.
It's 2 written tests and an 8710. You take one of the tests (agi or igi) along with your FOI (unless you're already a cfi), fill out an 8710, go to the fsdo, and you're good. Just remember, if your a CFI and you send over a student who doesn't already have a cfi certificate, legally speaking they can't start teaching the second they have that piece of paper in their hands because they're not current per 61.217. They would need AC 61-65E endorsement #54 .Ho do you even go about becoming an AGI? Is it an academic test, or a practical test?

I'm pretty sure this is not true and has been addressed by the FAA. MidlifeFlyer ?
Right, it said in that addendum and the other link to the following site that you CAN NOT ACT AS AN AGI/IGI unless you have that endorsement to make you current. I never said who had to give it to you. I just said you can't turn around and start teaching right away. Think about it. If I read this "tag team" correctly that you 2 are trying to tell it, you're saying that anyones mom could get an AGI by passing the knowledge test, and FOI test, and start teaching. OR, if you read the addendum it says you need to show proficiency in all those subject areas because the FAA knows about the above example. If you would like further clarification, you can call the DuPage FSDO and ask them. Every student I send over I train them that NO you can NOT come back with that new piece of paper and start teaching here. You need the endorsement first.I'm pretty sure this is not true and has been addressed by the FAA. MidlifeFlyer ?
What's your actual name i'll fax you an endorsement, and log you for 6.5hrs ground via magic. Don't worry this is NOT a scam. LOLThe real key is the Metzinger LOI.
In this case, the LOI, whether we agree with it or think it's rational or not, clarifies the official FAA interpretation of the regulation and spells out the fact that a new AGI needs an endorsement, as certification itself doesn't establish currency.
I'm actually stuck in the exact same rut -- I need to get someone to sign me off for currency, though I've had my AGI for a while now.

If your CFI expires, you can still teach ground/sim signing off with your AGI/IGI just be careful on what you sign off and teach. I.E. If you work with an IRA student in the sim/ground use your IGI at the end, not AGI, and vice versa. If you don't have endorsement #54 then NO you can not teach because you're not current, assuming you do NOT have a previous GI or FI certificate. If you do, you're fine. If you don't then you need the endorsement. The regulation is pretty cut and clear for once on this ruling.Where does it say that if you already have a CFI then you're good?
I understand that you can teach ground lessons using your FI certificate, but I'm just curious is it legal to sign off someone for a knowledge test using your GI #? Another edge case, say your CFI has expired, but you did give ground instruction during 3 months within the past year. You don't have #54 endorsement. Still legal to teach ground?

Well, heres the reg.This all makes sense, except the previous FI certificate. I couldn't find anything in the FAR or Metzinger LOI that says anything about previous FI certificate.
Well, heres the reg.
61.217 Recent experience requirements.
The holder of a ground instructor certificate may not perform the duties of a ground instructor unless the person can show that one of the following occurred during the preceding 12 calendar months:
(a) Employment or activity as a ground instructor giving pilot, flight instructor, or ground instructor training;
(b) Employment or activity as a flight instructor giving pilot, flight instructor, or ground instructor ground or flight training;
(c) Completion of an approved flight instructor refresher course and receipt of a graduation certificate for that course; or
(d) An endorsement from an authorized instructor certifying that the person has demonstrated knowledge in the subject areas prescribed under §61.213(a)(3) and (a)(4), as appropriate.
You know of any FI's who get their CFI certificates, and never even once use them within 12 months? I don't. It doesn't say how many hours or anything. All it says is that you've given training. It could be a 1hr flight for an intro. As long as it's documented it's legal according to the regulation.
