It's at sea level, this thing must have been pretty overloaded, because I use to see them in Bogota take off with a decent climb rate, at 8900'...
Yeah but the accident airport is only a 5900' runway.....Not much wiggle room there if something goes wrong.
At that airport at the reported temperature and winds, in a -17 they had a max takeoff weight of ~149,000lbs. Lets call BOW ~105,000lbs, and figure they needed like 20,000lbs to be comfortable. It's definitely doable.
How long was the flight planned for? Weather at the destination? Did they need an alternate?

I'm not sure how accurate this is but I saw this on Facebook. Definitely raises questions about the practices of this company. They lost 3 Boeing 727's in 10 years...

In the video taken just from the left side of the airplane on the road at the end of the runway, you can see the number 2 spitting flames after they'd crossed the road. So possibly a compressor surge causing a power loss and an inability to climb as a causal factor, or maybe the turbine ingested debris as it was passing through the forest.
After crossing the road and plowing through the fence, it lets out a little puff of flame. Probably from injesting the fence, or one of those guys bikes.
For where the inlet duct is mounted on the airplane (on top in the back), that'd be hard to do. If it was ingesting anything it would almost have to be a long overhanging tree limb.
