Hello, im currently 17 years old with around 25 hrs of flight time in a Cessna 172, Tomahawks, C150's. Ive always been into flying my uncle is a FO for Southwest. So i recently found the Aerosim Academy, and am very interested in it. I will not be attending it until the summer of 2013, so by than i should definatley have my PPL. Im looking to get into the regionals and finishing off college while im in regionals, as Aerosim is a acreditted flight school and knocks of an entire year of college!! Was wondering what you guys thought of Aerosim?

- Also when i was on the phone with Aerosim they said that they will beable to bypass the 1500hr bill, is that true? Sounds weary!

i went there for my PPl to COMM Multi engine. I do not have anything good to say about the school or the experiance i had when i was there, they made flying for me a unfun thing to do. It took me months to enjoy it againe once i left. But that was just my experiance. I say when you visit the school. you talk to some people who go there and see what they say.

Okay thanks for sharing, and yea heard somethings about the instructors always being moody ect, and just not a fun place to be!

I went to visit Aerosim and ATP in florida last week. Aerosim looks good on paper but when you break down what you get for the money its not worth it. In the spring of 2013 when you are ready to look at colleges then go visit places and make your mind up. As far as Aerosim being able to bypss the 1500 hours bill...well it will be federal law Aerosim won't have any influence on that or will ATP, Flight Safety, Aviator...ect.

Don't do it! Go to college, get a degree in something that enables you to do work on the side while a regional FO, like computer programming. Then attend FBO training on the side or do ATP over a summer between school years.

I know right now you're young and all you can think about is being a pilot on a cool regional jet, but trust me, college will be the most fun of your life. Please, please, please, please, please don't give that up. You'll see when you're here, it's nothing but a job. NOTHING like the fun I had in college.

And if you don't knock out your degree first, you'll never get it done. I've seen it over and over.

There's no hurry, enjoy being young!

Zach, Brett and Heath hit the nail on the head. The only thing I can add about Aerosim, or any airline gear school for that matter, is that their sole purpose in existence is profit. Yes, even small FBOs want profit but the biggest difference is that the small schools show at least an interest in your success. Don't buy into the Airline geared propaganda, remember quality training is important. A lot of these big schools have mixed up their priority at the student's expense.

I am not sure how old topics are supposed to get before people aren't supposed to respond so I will add something. There are a few universities that will get you your flight training and if you have the money you can knock out most if not all the requirements in 2 1/2-3 years if you take classes during the summer and winter sessions. I attend the University of Oklahoma and have seen a few people go from instrument to flight instructor in about 2 years. I would also recommended trying to get another degree or minoring in something else you like that is a more stable and open career, but you should definitely fly while you have the resources. I have met people that completed their degrees way late in life(that work in aviation) but have not met anyone that completed their pilot certification and became a professional pilot later in life. People tell me they WISH or they WANTED to become a pilot. Take that for what you will.

And sorry if this would be considered a dead post.

I HIGHLY doubt that aerosim would get a reduction in hours (not accredited, no crj sim, not a university). From what I've heard, only accredited universities, with certain courses and simulates will receive the reduction in hours from the 1,500.

Aerosim just doesn't sound like it will ever be eligible for that.

What do you think lobbyists do my friend? All the big 141 schools have people in Washington talking up the lawmakers, hence the reduction to 700 hours or whatever they're doing for collegiate and "approved" 141 schools. It's all typical politics and antics. Rant over.

Now for the school part of things, listen to Heath and many others sharing the opinion. Go to school, have fun, get a degree, make friends, and enjoy yourself. The airlines will be there when you're done with school. I was in your shoes a few months ago, and almost made a huge mistake by skipping school and going straight to ATP. Instead I'm having the time of my life at a big university. It's just a job at the end of the day my friend. If you want that shiny jet, go to ATP, knock out your ratings in three months, instruct for a year, then onto the Jet-A burning dream machines...After you get that degree.
