Just wondering, bc I havent really seen a lot of threads, if any on this subject. I would be curious to see how many of these pilots we have here on JC. All stunt and race pilots welcome, from owning a RV to an Edge 540. Would be curious to see how you guys got into this type of flying and wondering if this is only for the elite rich who can afford to buy this type of equipment or if their are some out there who were able to break into this career without having the funds, but simply worked your way into it.

Stunning! Who wouldn't walk away from their career they have now flying to do this for their livelihood!

The easiest way is to have a lot of money. Most of the guys at the contests who own Edges, Extras, MX's or Staudachers are usually Doctors or successful business owners. There are a lot of affordable aerobatic airplanes out there. Most of those guys just have a good job with a schedule that allows them to play around. If you don't have the money, you better know the right people and be able to bring something to the table. Being able teach the owners or wrench on the plane doesn't hurt. If you fly a good show, they might be willing to sponsor you. Most performers got their start learning to fly precision aerobatics in the IAC contests and then move on to airshows. No matter how much or little money they have, most had to start with spin, upset attitude & aerobatic training somewhere....

I taught aerobatics for a while as you can see from my avatar. It is a blast, but it takes a lot of money to compete, and also be competitive in competition.
