What is involved in aerial mapping? Does the pilot do everything by himself or is there someone that rides along to do the mapping tasks? And what exactly is the mapping used for?
With the pictometry gigs they are done single pilot, usually in 172s and a few Aztecs depending on the operator. You basically have a computer sitting next to you that operates a lightbar on the glareshield that guides you though the plans. It makes a bunch more sense when you do it. Pay is Ok, depending on the operator and you'll be on the road for 7-8 months. Pretty much a seasonal gig. Check out bing maps in any fairly populated area and click on 'Birds Eye' and you'll see what the final product looks like. All in all it's a very good time building gig if you have less than 1,000 hours. What is involved in aerial mapping?
