Aerial Air Soft...oh yeah.

Use smoke grenades, they'll simulate a kill zone for an "explosive". Just try not to hit anyone in the head with one.

I don't think that is illegal, anyway.

What I always thought would be fun to do is to mount some small model rockets on the wing struts or somewhere and use those. That seems a little more exciting than airsoft.

HaHa, You're avatar just seems to coincide with this post very nicely!:D

Yeah that was my dad's plane. It had been in the family longer than I had until the tie downs broke in February. You can see the result.

I thought fly by airsoftings would be fun. Just pull up next to some poor sob stick an airsoft out the window and let er rip! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who thinks of woierd shtuff like this. I thought the rocket idea would be fun to do too.

What is the effective range of those weapons?

Well if you mount the guns on the fuselage the range will likely not be far. Bullet will hit the prop and you will have successfully created a flying spray paint machine. Other than that, 100 yards for the typical paintball gun.

IMO you should just do flybys and have someone shoot out the window :)

Mount a potato gun in the baggage department and open the hatch (not much drag in the pipers). Bank, less than 60 degrees of course, and fire away!

Well, my jet is designed to shoot the internally-mounted gun at things, so that's not really an issue for me.

I dunno...looks exciting enough to me, pointing at the dirt going 480 knots.

Rolling in to line up with the target:

On the "wire" and ready to shoot:

Stumbled across this thread.

Um.. looks like you've already decided against it because of the physics involved, etc, but I'm gonna look at another aspect.

Most of us have heard of crap like this. Dropping flour sacks in kiddie pools as a 'bombing' contest... and all others under the sun I've never heard of.

Consider this:

If the press, or law enforcement/gov't (TSA?) got wind of this, it would scare the living crap out of them.

As pilots in a post 9-11 world, we unfortunately bear the burden not only of the practical and legal but of the hypothetical as well. We have to consider all possibilities of public safety.. and more to the point.. THEIR PERCEPTION of what we're doing.

Give 'em even one headline talking about pilots mounting "Guns on little planes!!" and we'll have airport smurf cops crawling over every flight school and FBO in America.

Just thinkin' out loud here, but is it really that far-fetched?

The solution to this seems obvious to me. If someone from the press sees you using your contraption, make sure they are the next problem. See, problem solved.

The rocket idea sounds sick!!! Then again...the rockets use a solid fuel engine...which produces flame, which will be mounted directly below a wing full of 100LL. Guns, airplanes, and jerry rigging....god i love this country!

I believe we may have just solved our border control issues. Who's got a small twin...we need AWACS. :]

Cheater! And it is our jet punk, we pay our taxes, at least I do. ;)

You might be surprised to know that military people pay the same taxes that everyone else does, unless they are actively deployed to a combat zone.
