Advice/Suggestions Needed...

So...I have a tough decision to make. I will graduate from college in May with a degree in business management. I already know it is going to be next to impossible for me to land a decent job once I graduate. I have considered going to a CTI school, but am just not sure. I am definitely going to apply to the next PUBNAT, but I don't know what to do when it comes to the CTI school. I know that even if I go the CTI way I would have to wait forever for a class date if I passed everything. Part of me wants to just apply PUBNAT and look for another job in the meantime. And less than a month left to apply to most universities if I wanted to go the CTI route. One more thing, is the CTI school a degree program? I am just wondering because I am unsure of what type of student I am (Grad-student, non-degree undergrad, etc.) when I apply to these schools.

Advice/suggestions/comments would be GREATLY appreciated

CTI takes almost 2 years I believe. Apply to the PUBNATs but you will still have to wait probably close to 2 years anyway. Good luck.

I was hoping to apply to PUBNAT also. When you say this, do you mean 2 years from application to the start of training? Or 2 years from application to the end of training? Also if it isnt this way, then what is the average time from application to the start of training?

Thanks

2 years until you start training. Another 2 to finish.

I don't think that this will apply to everyone, but I am half way thru my training after applying to PUBNAT2 around FEB. '08. That being said, I am half way thru my training with no idea how long the other half will take....A different issue for a different time...

Last I heard, the FAA is still hiring-frozen. That shouldn't last long (hopefully) and you might not have any better chances of getting hired through a CTI school than 'off the street' so investing money in a CTI school isn't going to pay off monetarily. That being said, it may be a while before the FAA works its way through hiring everyone, so another job in the mean time would be a good idea (IMHO).

If you really want to do this, start CTI school and apply the pubnat route. If you get picked up earlier through Pubnat great. If not, you can apply CTI when you graduate. Do the 2 year program and your on your way to getting hired.

Hiring may freeze at times, but it will not stop. over 3/4 of the work force is still going to have to retire in the next 10-15 years. Hiring may slow down, but it will ramp up again, garunteed.

This is also taking an assumption your not getting close to 30. If your over 25(4 year) or over 27(2 year program). I would not suggest CTI, because if you hit 31 while waiting to get hired, you just wasted money.

Keep in mind though, no CTI program really prepares you for Center work(Nothing prepares you for the center before getting hired), and the best CTI school to go for tower is the 1 where you come out with your CTO in hand.

At the moment there aren't any PUBNAT's for anyone without a CTO, CTI degree, or is VRA. So if you don't qualify for any of the previously mentioned announcements then I suggest CTI school or the military.
