Hi Tim,

Instructing in FL = All multi time/More students/Good Weather/No women
Instructing in NY = NO Multi/Less Students/Bad Weather/Plethora of women/more fun with friends

That's not always the case; it depends on the company you work for. I moved from FL to PA and have 4x the students, almost 2x salary, I am booked generally 10-16 hours a day and many days have to watch my 8 hours. The weather has been as crappy here as it was in florida, but, you're right I do miss the bikinis.

Wow- That's a blanket statement....kinda like saying 'you've been an intern for a year....you can do open heart surgery....' it's sad to see so many CFI's that all they care about it hitting that 1000TT mark and getting into that RJ.....what' worse it it's bad for their students because the CFI is basically riding along just worried about getting time.....

Cranky?

1400TT meets the mins of a lot of airlines. Just check out airlinepilotcentral.com. I know guys from ATP getting hired at decent companies with less than 1000TT. My private instructor just got hired by Express Jet with 650TT. I'm sorry but I'd rather take a Regional job at a decent company than work as a CFI. Not saying being a CFI is a bad thing, but at some point in time I'd like to start logging turbine time to get to the majors. No excuse to jump on with a poor company with crappy pay, but I consider ExpressJet to be a good company to start out with. I know 4 people who fly for them and a good friend of mine is a Captain with Continental flying 747's. The industry is what it is man, and we can't change that. If I have the opportunity at 600TT to get on with a decent regional, I'm taking it. Because if I don't, the next guy will. I didn't spend $50,000 to become a CFI for 5 years.

Now before I go getting flamed for being a contributing factor to the downfall of the industry, thats not what I'm saying. I don't believe in PFT, PFJ and working for a company based in Texas with a salary of $15k a year. There are respectable regionals to get on with and thats my goal. Instructing will be fun but in 5 years it won't pay the bills. Hopefully in 5 years I'll have enough flight time to get on with Southwest, Airtran or another major.

Well put. I think what you just said is exactly what most of us are thinking. No one wants to be labled a "contributer to the downfall of salaries, etc"...And sometimes I think some of us get criticized too much about taking airline jobs at low time. The fact of the matter is, KeyBank DOES NOT care where you work, how much you make, just as long as they get $500/month, they'll shup up. With that being said, I think Doug, DE727, and most of us can agree its every man for himself out there in this world. Airlines pay more than Instructing, I've got to support myself and my family, just like EVERYONE. Flying is one of the best things in life....but money keeps us alive.

Aroo? My "The Name Doug Taylor and Natural Selection Theory Being Used in the Same Sentence" annunciator illuminated. Lemme re-read the thread!
