As an engineer/pilot here, get the ME degree.
Guess what? Airlines will still be there later if that's what you want. But you probably won't.
An engineering degree is not something you can do part time. It does qualify you for all sorts of things that seemingly have nothing to do with it though.
Those that know me personally here can vouch for the fact that my technology corporation day job is way better than any airline gig. And I fly as much as I want on the side (until it feels like work, then I knock back beers on the beach)
some good stuff about the engineering world - no travel if you don't want that, generous expense accounts if you do. No furloughs. No seniority. Generally good bonuses. Great salary and benefits. Freelancing pays better than full-time.
