What's a rudder?

Something non-jet pilots use on a regular (e.g., non emergency or normal) basis, but that's not important right now.

As a tailwheel instructor, I have done quite a few biannual's in the last few years for tailwheel pilots. One thing they all like to brag about is how good they are with rudder, when in fact they are not all that great.

Takeoffs and landings? yes, a tad better but thats about it. But man, they know how to brag how good they are.

I would never say I'm good with the rudder at my experience level, but getting TW instruction did markedly improve my rudder skills. If anything, TW instruction taught me how little I really knew about rudder control.
