Additional Duties

What kinds of additional duties do controllers have, if any? When I was in the military, we were swamped with so many additional duties that many of us rarely spent time on our primary duties.

Is it the same in the FAA?

I can only speak for A80 bu we are so short on staffing that there is no time left for any additional duties. We spend, on average, 6 and a half hours of an eight hour day plugged into position.

Chris is right. We do not have time at A80 to do anything else but take a quick break and get back to the floor. That said, at other facilities they can have you doing ANYTHING they feel like. In smaller facilities it may be cleaning, filing, answering phones, etc.
