Additional 14 CFR 121 Prohibitions on Remote Dispatching

After 49 USC 44748 was amended to prohibit remote dispatching (Part 121 Remote Dispatching ist Kaput!), the FAA has a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (https://www.regulations.gov/document/FAA-2026-5413-0001) revising 14 CFR 121.107, 121.125, and 121.127 to include similar language, such as:
(b) Except as provided in paragraph (c) of this section, a certificate holder may not allow a person to work as an aircraft dispatcher outside of a physical location designated as a dispatching center of the air carrier.

(c) In the event of an emergency or other event that renders a dispatch center inoperable, a certificate holder may dispatch aircraft from a location other than a dispatch center of the certificate holder for a period of time not to exceed 14 consecutive days per location without approval of the Administrator.

(d) The certificate holder must notify the responsible Flight Standards district office within 24 hours of each use of any location other than a dispatch center.

That would have been a dream job: major airline dispatch with work from home. But I completely understand why remote dispatch is no go.

A dream job in Hyderabad maybe.....if remote was allowed to continue, it would only be a matter of time until either outsourcing to low cost contractors or offshoring followed. This regulation is a big win for the profession.

Major airline dispatching as long as it is done from a hub would be the real dream. Imagine not being tied to just 3 cities. Technically the FARs allow it but the airlines will probably never want to do it.

Be careful for what you wish for.

As mentioned in a comment above, if it weren’t for these FARs, the outsourcing of our profession would be a thing of when, not if, not to mention the compensation wouldn’t be even close to what it is now (Mainline at least).

I have never understood the concept of wanting to remote dispatch. You have no business at a 121.
