Academics @ ERAU

To be 100% honest, in terms of your flight career it makes little difference what you major in. So, do what you want to do, b/c as long as you have your ratings and hours you are good.
I like AS as I enjoy taking classes that look into aircraft systems, avionics, engines, Wx, flight planning, etc. Check and see what DAB offers, as it is different from here in PRC, and I'm not sure 100% what is similar.
I dont think DAB has STG, as my FFFR (with all of these abbreviations, I thought I could put in one more. FFFR=former fat • roommate) was from NY and said he came out to AZ as DAB didnt offer STG. Maybe it has changed.
If you have any more questions bud, feel free to ask, but just take some time and look at the course cateloge and see what interests you.
Here is a pic of my FFFR, about to accost the police:

I'm pretty sure DAB has a security major now, but I'll have to check on that.

(10 minutes later after digging through the web site)

It's an area of concentraion for the Safety Science degree.

i was wondering if getting your CFI was of greater importance and if you can only make it to that rating if u stick with AS?

b/c i didnt see that w. other majors. i dont think. guess thats why im asking

and, with my ERAU catalog in hand, im off doing more research.

I'm not sure if its a AS only course, but I know taking it increases your chance to be hired on as an IP at ERAU after you graduate. You don't actually need the course to graduate with an AS major though, so I'm just gonna get my CFI elsewhere, unless I can get a commercial job straight out ^_^ hope that helps

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha... *falls out of my chair*...hahah...

Wait...we have classes at this school?

As for CFI, it's the same certificate as anywhere else. Everyone takes the same tests. Don't let Riddle try to tell you anything contrary. I'm starting my CFI over at an FBO across the field within a couple of weeks here, since I have absolutely no wish to work as a Riddle IP. ERAU only requires that you complete through your commercial here. Whatever else you do is optional.

:holds crystal ball, burns incense:
"I see many things in the future. RiddlePilot will be playing poker to pay back loans, and live in Vegas for the rest of his life. Khal will go into loan sharking, then get loan sharked by Key and Sallie Mae, and then die of a VD."
And what will I do? Become the next Miss Cleo and have my psychics stand by to take your money.
A job right after college, you're funny Khal.

There's some wishful thinking right there. Riddle hasn't been telling you stuff like that have they?

hahaha, no, thats just my opimistic side talking. You'd have to know me to understand but I'm one hell of a lucky bastard, I dunno how that works out but it does *shrug*

You luck out and catch back up. So once I get a job, then you'll get luck and get one. Or I could end up eating my words. Who knows. I dont buy into the job after grad BS anymore.

i'd like to be optimistic as well, only becuase i guess thats how i function. but, to be a little more real, what do typical riddle students do after college to continue their path to fulfilling their dreams of becoming a pilot[in my case, for an airline] and what are your personal plans post graduation?

The majority do what everyone else does: instruct somewhere. I've heard of very very few people getting, say, right seat at a charter company. My plans? If all goes well, I'd like to get a job next semester as a part-time instructor at the FBO I'll be training at this summer. If that doesn't pan out, it's off to any FBO that'll hire me after I graduate.

My uncle used to fly a twin for a charter company that took bank papers back and forth in the north east somewhere. I guess he's still got buddies there so I'm gonna try looking into that. It's a solo operations so it'd be nice and quite all night back and fourth ^_^ although odds are i'll end up a CFI for a while with the rest of these bums

Are you going to graduate with 1200 hours of flight time, along with all of the other 135 mins??

Yes I will, they're also getting me a type rating in a Triple 7 (200 of those 1200 hours, so i'll be good and experienced for my garunteed right seat with the majors), so once I'm bored with a tiny twin I can go fly a big one. Maybe that or, even just buy my own jet and live on my estate. Since I don't need to do a silly thing like work for something in life or try hard, considering I go to Riddle, It comes on a silver platter
