On of my good pals who just made captain over there is looking into nursing as an option.

Scary days.

Did someone mention Gaylord Fokker?

Just kidding Doug, don't mean to make fun of the situation. I wish your friend the best of luck and it sucks to see all these pilots losing jobs and changing careers due to a crappy situation.

If ACA left United, wouldn't United have to abandon its IAD hub altogether? I would think it would be pretty hard for another airline the size of ACA to move in and take over most of its flights.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's a big negative. UAL has a lot of flights that don't involve ACA flying out of Dulles. Let's put it this way, when I was employed selling advertising, I flew out of Dulles on UAL to Austin, Denver, San Antonio, LA, San Diego, and a bunch of other places without stepping on ACA metal.

Well first of all "we" means Delta. As a Delta employee I can say "we". I work in customer service here @ CVG so I'm part of the Delta family as it were and hope to be a flight attendent when they start the next class.

Delta managment did do some shady raw s**t but other then that the company is still good tarnished some but still good.

And I'm sure that bankruptcy has been mentioned several times as an option but but was never acted upon. And amongst the majors that means minus the LCC Delta is the most finacially sound carrier having larger shores of cash on hand then any other "major airline". And with the industry looking some what better with the war in Iraq over (kinda) and oil prices dropping hopefully things will only look bigger & brighter for Delta in the future.

From the scuttlebut that I've heard, if DAL dumps us, then they assume the leases on 30+ Do 328 Jets. Right now, we can't leave DAL and they can't leave us.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I believe DAL may be required to purchase those 30+ Do328s at a fair market value. Regardless, DAL is obliged to comply with the DAL Pilot Working Agreement, which would not permit DAL to continue its code share with ACA if ACA were to acquire aircraft with over 70 seats.

American doesn't have the presence at Dulles that ACA does.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just some food for thought, but United has the presence at Dulles, not ACA. All those passengers are flying on a UAL code and most are connecting to another UAL destination. ACA was simply providing the small jet lift, they weren't generating the revenue or marketing the product. ACA has a tough road ahead of them, they now have to develop their own product, market it, win passengers and provide that service at a competitive rate. I'm not saying it can't be done, but won't be easy.

Yeah your right, UAL has the presence. But if you look at united on the east coast, they have very limited amounts of service. Cities such as Nashville and Raleigh, both good sized cities, are not served by UAL mainline. If you are staying on the east coast and not going to a city like New York, there is a good chance your are flying ACA to IAD and then ACA to wherever. They are bigger than you think.

I'm starting to think that since UAL has the codeshare with AAA (USAirways), that they might be able to backfill the loss of ACA's feed by enticing AAA and their wholly-owned subsidiaries to shift some flights into IAD.

This business is so crazy that if someone said Braniff was coming back and was ordering 20 Boeing Sonic Cruisers and a Concorde, I wouldn't bat an eye.

Let's hope they buy the 717!!!

Vipermcg...Do you really think that picture that reads "anyone but Bush in 2004" is necessary? Political stuff like that has no business being on these boards.

The problem with that is, they will have a tremendously hard time finding the gate space to do it. ACA owns the entire "A" terminal at Dulles, and has a lease on the "T" terminal. Which means that if United wants to bring in another regional, they are gonna have to find gate space elsewhere. It really puts United in a difficult situation.

Does anyone have the numbers of UAL express net loss or gain in aircraft. Add Mesa's new deal and TSA's new deal and then take away ACAs planes. Any idea if its about equal?

The decision for new aircraft has come down to three:

The Boeing 737-800, the Airbus A321, and the Boeing 757(possible an older variant.) Supposedly the delivery should start in about 11 months, at a rate of 1.5 aircraft per month for an undisclosed period of time.

Is that a joke? These boards (not just the squawk box) are filled with people's political views. The probelm you have is that you probably just dont agree with mine.

I am not a big fan of Bush either and I feel he has no busines being in office (my opinion) so I don't mind the signature vipermcg has. If I did care for bush, I wouldn't mind it either, he is entitled to his opinion just like everyone else.

Whaaaadoyasay we steer the thread back towards the subject at hand.

Besides,

Squidward would so spank the GOP in the Iowa primaries.

Doesn't UAL own their gates in the C and D terminal? All they have to do is use their existing gates there. I'm not sure what their average daily gate usage is. I'm sure they could modify their gates to accomidate turboprops. They could go all RJ, who knows!

Yeah you might be right about that. I don't know. One thing to consider though, its one thing to fly someone elses code, its an entirely different thing to generate your own. These will certainly be interesting times at ACA.
