About to buy the Bose X, couple of questions.

After an exhausting search I've finally decided to buy the Bose headset. First, I have a couple of questions on which model to buy.
1. Coil cord or straight cord?
2. Battery powered or panel powered?
 
1. Straight cord. Coil is maybe better if your plugs are up over your shoulder, but straight is generally the way to go for most a/c.
2. Battery powered (unless your a/c is specially modified just for the Bose - you would know this if it was)
 
I have the strait cord and battery powered kind. The only thing that went wrong with mine in over a year of use is the panel that covers the batteries snapped off. Its not a big deal at all though, you just have to be gentle with it. You will see what I mean.

I had mine for less than a month before this happened to me. It still snapps on, but a lil' piece broke off when replacing the batteries..... Great ANR ~ POS Battery Cover
 
I bought a pair a month ago and love them. I got the straight cord and I would go with the battery powered unless they are going to stay in one plane. If you want, be sure and take advantage of there 0% financing for a year and you can try them risk free for 45 days.

CFI's get money back on referrals as well... ask about that!

Also... straight/battery.

Send the one with the broken battery cover back... or even just the battery cover itself... they will replace it for free.

While I despise anything else bose, I went and bought the Bose X headset. I've had it for a year now without a single problem. Except for not paying attention to the flashing yellow light. :D Sucks when you're sitting there and it's all wisper quiet and then all of a sudden it sounds like the world just ended. haha

But yeah, no complaints so far.

I wish I had known that when I was instructing for a living :). Oh well.
 
I have the Bose X and love it. Lightest thing I tried and my head is happier for it...also no problems with hit and noise cancelling helps sometimes.
 
I've never liked the Bose myself but that is a personal preference. I have the Pilot Avionics PA-1779T and I felt they were far better at their price point. Plus when the power cut out (after around 40 hours) it didn't feel like I was going to be deaf after the flight. They are comparable or better to DC H10-13S's with the power off.
 
The only problem I had with mine is i shut the cord in the airplane door. Bose sent an overnight call tag for it and overnighted it back.

They decided to replace the cord, plugs, ear seals, as well as the ANR circuitry. Not to mention they sent 24 Energizer AA's.

My ONLY complaint about the Bose Aviation Headset X is the warranty.

2 years for $1,000? Little skimpy on the warranty aren't ya' Bose?
 
This may sound like a stupid question but when I was flying the props primarily, my batteries were lasting about 80-90 hours. Now that I am flying the jet primarily, batteries are lasting about 180-190 hours before a change. Does ANR work harder with the props?
 
Yes... that's exactly right.

I'm getting about the same performance. The info says the batteries will last 40 hours... well... I was getting twice that in the props and 3-4 times that in now in the jet.
