AAL flight with evacuees

I am watching fox news and they are unloading an American Super 80 in lubbock and they are searching bags, have bomb dogs and have sherrifs lined up with rubber gloves on like a pseudo-TSA while they unload the jet. what a sad state of affairs to have to combine the hallacious storm problem with the omnipresent danger of terrorism and airline screening. youd think that would be the last thing on their minds(evacuees'). Such is life in America I guess.

Probably to be expected after all of the violence. The same nut who shot at a rescue helicopter might be the same nut who tries to blow up/hijack an airplane.

It depends on where they're flying them. If they're going to fly them from MSY to DFW and offload into the airport, they've got to screen everything. Otherwise you may introduce contraband into a secure zone.

it looked like they had just landed in lubbock and were offloading people from MSY.....kinda strange but i guess better safe than sorry

I disagree. Entirely different psychopathologies at work here. Gang bangers or (more likely) drug addicts with guns taking potshots at a helicopter is vastly different from the deliberate sort of planning required to blow up/hijack an airplane.

Slightly off topic: I really believe that at the end of the day, the facts will probably show that this shooting at a rescue helicopter is mostly bunk. Just like the out of control looting nonsense. Sure the TV media stations showed a handful of people looting tv's and electronic equipment early, before we knew we had a catastrophe in the making. But breaking into a store when there is no food, water, and all your clothes are wet and stinkin to get food and clean dry clothes isn't looting...it's survival. What was Walmart going to do with all that rotted food and moldy bread in six months? Believe me right now FEMA, Homeland Security, the state and local governements, will gladly blame the victims to get some heat off of themselves for completely botching this whole thing up.
It's the old story of blaming the victim. The only government agency that seemed to show up was the USCG.

BTW: I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but I heard from and industry insider that her contacts have given her rumours that American was ready to fly days ago with supplies, but FEMA insisted they wanted to have the first plane to land at the airport with supplies. If that is the case, its time for criminal prosecution. From my experience dealing with some Federal Agencies make me believe that this is entirely possible even probable.
