A credible source tells me that American will be hiring dispatchers in a few months???? Can anyone confirm? Anyone know how many? Do they have assistants or immediate full dispatch? Starting pay?

Can't "confirm", but I've head the same from some one who works there. Last contract I've seen (2003) has the starting pay at $2712/month as of 2008. I'm really hoping they've got something newer out there that's more inline with other major pay scales.

A guy in my class whom was a Crew Scheduler over there now a big Manager in that area of the SOC told me how they haven't hired since 9/11. His wife was in the company prior to becoming a Dispatcher with them but unfortunately her and a bunch of other folks were still on probation after 9/11 so they were furloughed = fired. Her and that whole group of people just got calls maybe about 3 months ago to return. So hiring may start up if they've exhausted that list of folks that were fired after 9/11.

A buddy of mine got his recall back to AA and took it. He left another good paying carrier to go there, and took a "huge paycut". He said they hopefully will be hiring this summer/fall, but definitely are going to look internally before they go external. He is a commuter and told me for the first 5 years all AA employees have to pay a fee to non-rev. The schedule is a bit rough, and seeing how it is a union shop, you will be doing domestic for a long time before you ever dream of doing international.

I have seen AA's pay scale and it hasn't improved any recently. A friend there says they have a lot of overtime available, though. He also said the next hire class should include external candidates, they've cone through their list of people who were furloughed post-9/11. I haven't seen their operation in person but it doesn't seem like people there are real happy. And, their contract negotiations are really dragging (not just with dispatchers but with all groups) so I wouldn't expect to see the starting pay improve anytime soon.
