AA will start offering recalls to the dispatchers who stayed in PIT. After they are given the chance to return, a job will likely be posted for internals/externals depending on how many from PIT turn down the re-call offer. They are looking to hire a few classes depending on training constraints. Total numbers unknown but could be in a few dozen or more. Additional hiring possible after this round.
 
this is the best news I've heard since I started working the ramp for them just for this very reason
 
Cover letter, thoroughly reviewed resume and three letters of recommendation from internals ready to go. Hard work pays off with or without the haters.

There are roughly 80 IOC employees who have their certificate. These include routers, planners, crew trackers and schedulers as well as the flight planning support people who are covered under the cba. I doubt the hire off the street. Will probably be internals only. They have done that in the past.

What has happened in the past may not be what happens in the future. Further, while having a certificate is essential, at the level AA is on, so is experience. I know some internals have prior dx experience, but then there is the equation of those who don't and the rest of us who are putting in our time in dx, (sometimes a long time,) to make the top level.

When I was in dispatch school there was a lady in my class who worked for AA in their OCC and was trying to get her certificate to dispatch for them sometime in the future. I hope she is never a dispatcher on a flight I have to get on. @SpaceBeagle, you agree?

just because you have a license and are internal that doesn't make you qualified for the position.

This is true. However, I think his point was that, by virtue of being internals with a license, that they have the inside track to any dispatch openings within AA. From AA's perspective, the internals are a known quantity, whereas an external is not.

That "known quantity" doesn't always equate to "known experience"...

Hmmmm....ramp work takes a responsibility over experience in an experience field with a training ground for said experience. Sounds like some priorities are out of place there.

That's true; I never denied that. However, the internal already working in OCC (albeit not as a dispatcher) is a known quantity to management; the external is not-even with a lot of experience. Secondly, there's been an increased emphasis on soft skills within the business world-perhaps too much so.
 
I would just say this, if you don't work for American, you really don't know what they do or what they want. Mostly hopeful thinking on your part, and that's fine. I'm just sharing from my experience working at AA. And finally, just because you worked 3 years at xyz carrier as a dispatcher, it doesn't mean you are a good employee.
