AA Flight Planning Support Specialist

I had a friend do that for a couple of years, she's currently in a new hire class for dispatchers at AA so promotion is possible. I think you have to stay in the position for 2 or 3 years first though.

I thought of going the internal route, but the risk is you'd be limiting yourself to one company.
 
Most FPS eventually get hired into dispatch and the pay/schedule is pretty good so I would recommend this job to anyone that doesnt mind waiting a year or two for a new hire spot. You work a lot with international dispatchers in this job.

Can you provide more information about the pay scale?

I’m assuming not in CASS since technically not a dispatcher, correct?

Not an entry level:
Requirements 3 years experience (if you select no you will be automatically disqualified.
Degree: if you select no you’re automatically disqualified as well

Pay starting $30.78 they are on dispatch contract. That figure does not include shift differential or extra holiday pay.

Well that just dashes everyone's hopes. Who usually gets this job then?

How is it possible that this has stricter requirements than the actual dispatch job?
 
This appears to be the IOC Specialist position, not FPS. Their tasks are a bit of a mystery to me, but I believe they work with the dispatchers schedules day-of, and make overtime calls.
 
Incorrect it is indeed a posting for FPS, just as the job description states

The Specialist – Flight Planning Support (FPS) provides 24-hour flight planning, NOTAM and navigation support services for American Airlines and other contracted customers. Is a member of a team of PAFCA represented operations specialists responsible for maintaining the company's flight planning, NOTAM and support databases. Ensures efficiency in database operations through continuous database optimization efforts. On a daily basis creates optimized routes for trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific flights. Maintains flight plan routings and other database tables for city pairs served by American Airlines and contract carriers. Reviews and edits NOTAMs for their impact on American Airlines flight operations. Provides interface with departments inside and outside the company as necessary, including Air Traffic Service Providers, Regional Airline partners, Database Suppliers and Navigation Service customers.
