(CNN) -- The cat that vanished in baggage claim at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and whose plight became an online sensation has been found after being missing for two months.

"American Airlines is happy to announce that Jack the Cat has been found safe and well at JFK airport," the carrier wrote in a post on the "Jack the Cat is Lost in AA Baggage at JFK" Facebook page Tuesday evening.

"Jack was found in the customs room and was immediately taken by team members to a local veterinarian. The vet has advised that Jack is doing well at present."

The airline plans to fly the cat to California to be reunited with his owner, Karen Pascoe.

The saga started on August 25, when Pascoe was flying from New York to San Francisco with Jack and a second cat as part of a job relocation. But Jack escaped his kennel and was last seen at JFK's inbound baggage claim. (continued)

Naw man, it sold on eBay!

The new airline "Lost And Found" :)

Uh, oh . . . isn't this what got AAL into trouble to begin with?

I bet they don't tell you how it really happened. AA probably ran out of space. It knew that for days but waited until the last minute and simply bumped Jack from the flight at the last moment, making no alternate provisions than, "you're on your own, •!"

American's kind of like that. Anyone who American stranded (or tried to strand) in the Caribbean during its fuel farm fire in Florida last spring knows that.

I guess the cat only has a 50/50 chance of living - I felt the same way after being in the care of American for 11 hours.

I do know if the cat was across the airport in terminal three, it'd have been eating like a king on rats and pidgeons.

They can't even see the B737 they are following on final approach if you spoon feed it to them and you expected them to be able to see a cat?

RIP, Jack the Cat......:(

Jack

Jack the Cat, who captured the hearts of pet lovers across the world after he was lost for 61 days at Kennedy International Airport, died on Sunday, 12 days after he was found.

He was 5 or 6 years old, said his owner, Karen Pascoe, who adopted him in 2008.
When Jack, a Norwegian forest cat with long orange hair and copper eyes, fell through the ceiling in the Terminal 8 customs area on Oct. 25, it initially seemed as if a happy ending was in store for the cat and his owner. Ms. Pascoe had been preparing to board a flight to California, where she was moving, on Aug. 25, when she received a call from American Airlines officials saying that Jack had escaped from his carrying case.

After emerging from the ceiling, Jack was taken to an animal hospital in Forest Hills, Queens, run by BluePearl Veterinary Partners, which runs 21 animal hospitals in 10 states. He was transferred by pet ambulance to the BluePearl hospital in Manhattan on Wednesday so that he could be supervised by intensive care specialists there, said Dr. Meredith Daly, a veterinarian who treated him.

He was euthanized Sunday evening, Dr. Daly said.

Because Jack was severely malnourished and dehydrated, Dr. Daly said, his skin had become so thin that it tore easily, rendering him prone to severe infection and organ dysfunction. Despite measures like a feeding tube, intravenous fluids, antibiotics and one operation, veterinarians finally recommended euthanasia.

“Forty to 60 percent of his body area was affected by devitalized tissue, tissue without blood flow,” Dr. Daly said.

A Facebook page devoted to Jack, "Jack the Cat is Lost in AA Baggage at J.F.K.", had more than 24,400 “likes” as of Monday morning. On Sunday, a post entitled "RIP Jack - Full Info" reported that Jack had “gone over the rainbow bridge.” (contiuned)

I love how the first article said he was doing fine, then less than two weeks later they have put it down.

It took AAL two months to finish the job but, in the end, they finally got their man . . . er, cat.
