A380 Cockpit Picture

<Jiminy Christmas, I had to scroll over about 10 feet to the right to hit "Reply". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif >

Now... what was I going to say????????

OH YEAH:

It's a pretty amazing (looking) set up.

And I'm quite impressed that no one has chanted the "Airbus sucks" mantra!! Kudos to all!!!

What is the JAA position on Airbus type ratings? Right now it is the same type rating for everything from the A318 to the A380 (except for the A300 of course), big difference in the way the aircraft handle. With the FAA, difference type ratings for the 737, 747, 757/767, 777.

last I heard no type was needed - Airbus has made it handle like a light twin therefore it is classified as one.

Not bad, but does anyone actually have any proof that airbus is actually building this thing? I heard a rumor that it's just a scare tactic to get Boeing to over extend itself.

There hasn't been a yoke in an Airbus since the A310...

Ummm... look to the left... next to the window. What do you see?

That thing with the red button..... that's it. It's a side joy-stick deal. Has been since the 310.... but that's already been said. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It is just me or is that plane not lined up properly on the runway /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Overall, it gets a meh rating. Nothing against Airbus but this plane just doesn't excite me at all. I'm much more psyched about the 7E7.

Airbus aircraft don't use yokes...thay have a sidestick controller that looks like a joystick. It is a fly-by-wire system that works off of stick position "sensors". Look at the extreme left of the picture next to the last screen and you will see what I am talking about.

It seems about 3 or 4 of us replied at the same time...sorry about that!

This may not be the actual cockpit itself but perhaps some sort of cockpit procedures trainer or simulator. FlightSafety and also Simcom are both working on realistic "paper tigers" that use touchscreen technology. It is cheaper and easier to produce than one using the actual dials and switches but more realistic than a paper model. I've seen models at some of the airshows/conventions and they are pretty cool. They can even be reconfigured for different aircraft.

Wow, sorry I don't know much about AirBus--that's gotta be one hell of a transition from a yoke to the Flight Simulator Fighter style joystick /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/spin2.gif

Interesting looking flight deck.
I'm still a Boeing fan, I like having the final authority when flying the airplane, instead of the computer making all the choices.

There are about 116 of them on order, with various major international airlines. Emirates has ordered 43. Lufthansa 15, FedEx, Singapore Airlines have ordered 10 each, among others.
