A sample few days of 200 flying...

Yesterday... Launch from Bakersfield @ 7am for Victorville (pilot lounge smells like cat piss). Hot unload at Victorville and back to BFL. BFL to Salinas layover for 2 hours and go to Circuit City to kill time. Depart SNS for BFL, hot unload at BFL and back to Victorville to pick up 2 people. Fly those people back to BFL and done for the day.

Today. Depart BFL @ 2:30pm for Trinity Center in NorCal with a total of 7 people O86. Smallest airport I've flown the 200 into

Drop the people off and return to BFL.

Anyway... just thought I'd try and make the thread more active.

Yup pretty sweet. Part 91 flying sure lets you go to a lot more interesting destinations than 121. I'm going back up there on Sunday and I'll get some pictures of the airport.

How many corportate jobs are in Bakersfield? And what kind of time did you have to get on the KA?

I'm not insurance qualified yet due to...
a) low total time (1100 hours)
b) low multi time (125 hours)
But I'm working on it...

My dad manages and flies the 200 and his company sent me to Flight Safety in December. I got very lucky because I only had my multi for like 3 weeks and then I went to the 200 initial which was totally a blast after flying a scary Seminole around cheating death.

Bakersfield Air Charter is the 135 operator on the field. I have a friend that flies for them. They pay $26 and $13 standby. Heard they were looking for pilots.

Bako has a lot of part 91 King Air flying. The thing I've noticed is most of the part 91 stuff is very hard to get into until you start meeting owners and developing relationships with them. Its all who you know in corporate 91 flying. There are roughly 15 or so 91 turbo props on field.

Gotta go out to eat now... in SBA on a layover.

Are you able to log SIC time since you went to school? I didn't realize there were so many Pt 91 operators. How is Bakersfield air charter to work for and what kind of time do you need to get on? And how do you like living in Bakersfield?

I'm logging PIC because I'm rated for the AC and went to school. I just have another pilot who is insured flying with me right now.

BAC My friend that flies for them hasn't complained. BAC is planning to send him to type school on a Citation. Be warned though I have heard rumors that the owner isn't the nicest person to work for. Another pilot told me this week not to even think about flying for BAC. It might be a good way to get into the Bakersfield part 91 market by starting out there.

The city of Bakersfield isn't bad in fact its leaps and bounds up from Fresno...

Compared to Fresno its like PARADISE...

One thing I forgot to mention about Bakersfield. There is a section called Oildale commonly refered to as simply The Dale that's inhabited primarily by rednecks. The Dale is an ongoing joke on most local radio stations. There are cars up on blocks in the front yards and everything.

Fresno might be bad but areas around it are alright. I have never been to Bakersfield. I have heard it was the PCP capital of the US. How hard is it to get a corp job with all of those turboprops around?

I actually don't live in Bakersfield... I live like 20 min northwest in a little farming community called Shafter...

Yup.

Shafter, #7 on the list of top 10 places that needs renaming.

Most of the guys flying turbo props in Bakersfield are older (35+) and satisfied with their careers so the turn over rate is pretty low for the 91 stuff.

Pay is decent. The FBO that hangars our AC manages several King Airs and pays their pilots $420 a day. Another group pays $65 and $35 stand by. I don't know details beyond that because most of the pilot positions are salaried.
