A Real Airplane

Was debugging this on the ramp. Such a cool plane.

What were the wheelbrakes on the original YMFs, pushrods and leather straps?

I thought you were a purist Waco? Thats not a real Waco, it a re-production. I mean, look at the wing light! And Waco's shoulden't be IFR certified!

Still a nice plane though. I'd hit it too.:D

Mostly on these, I hate the wooden props they use (the squared off ones like this). I also hate that they raised the tail by putting a taller tailwheel AND lowered the main gear about four inches, giving the airplane a flatter appearance than original. Mostly though, I've heard the new versions were extremely heavy - and I hate heavy airplanes. There are some original models, like below, that will fly circles around the new versions - just completely outperform them. The newest of the Waco Classics have a fuel injected Jacobs putting out 300hp, which may help them...but then again, you could also put one of the fuel injected motors on an original and then you'd have the lighter machine putting out 300hp which would be better still. In the photo's below notice the stance the airplane has on the ground - sits taller. I've heard the new ones are almost impossible to three-point because of the way the changed the gear geometry.

Here's an original "F":

I'm with you there- talking almost 2100lbs anymore. No small wonder though here's some of the 2010 options list:

Garmin G500 Advanced Multi-Function Display, Two (2) Garmin 430 WAAS GPS
units, GI-106a VOR/LOC/GS/GPS Indicator, Mid-Continent 2 ¼ “ Backup Attitude
Indicator with Battery System. (Garmin Aera and SL-40 deleted)
Autopilot - S-Tec 30, 2 Axis Autopilot, GPSS (requires heading indicator or VFR Plus
package or greater)

Still beautiful tribute but missing the point?

A lot of restorations end up really heavy too. The quality of the finishes on the restorations are probably significantly better than what was on the airplane when it left the factory too. The Waco I helped my Grandpa restore had 30 coats of HAND RUBBED dope on grade-A cotton. It was great looking, but heavy. I personally feel like airplanes fly a lot nicer light, so I focus on that. The guys who put together the AOPA Waco that was given away a while back do beautiful work, but I've also heard those airplanes are incredibly heavy too.

That black and white F is a stunner! I'm pretty sure I've seen it in Bartlesville at least a couple of times.

I'd be willing to bet it'd fly circles around a new F-5. Another thing I hate on the new ones - the large N-numbers on the side of the airplane. There should be large NC numbers on the wings, and small ones on the tail. Large N-numbers on the fuselage are gay.

This guy is from Alaska, he runs a small sightseeing and banner towing company in Myrtle Beach. I wanted to fly with him but there are no controls on the front seat/seats.

You know what? Biplanes are for suckas! They're box kites wrapped in a doped-up flour sack.

There, I said it. It's out there. Deal with it. :bandit:

How dare you blaspheme! I've never reported a post before in my life - I always thought it egregiously puss-like to do so (like calling a foul in sandlot basketball) but I am going to report this post.

You best spitcan that blasphemy, son. You're headed onto the same list that Roger Roger now finds himself on for the same demonstration of heresy.
