A Question for Navy Pilots

Actually, two.

What is an E-6B naval flight officer?

Were women allowed to perform that function in the first half of the last decade?

Thank you.

i assume it would be a flight officer on the E-6B mercury. as far as teh females go, i have no idea. Im not in the navy buy the way, just using the power of google.

A Naval Flight Officer can be assigned to a variety of different platforms. I would suspect that the NFO on an E-6B would be the mission commander or a subordinate mission leadership role. I can't speak directly to the E-6B...I'm an EA-6B NFO by trade, but that one letter makes for a vast difference in mission. If there aren't any TACAMO guys on the board, maybe one of the P-3 guys could give you a better guess.

I went through flight school in 1991-92, and the Navy was just then assigning women to tactical aircraft as both NFOs and pilots. I'm sure women have been flying shore-based aircraft longer, but I can't say for certain how long.

That didn't answer either question directly, but it's the best I can do. We don't fly the E-6 in the Men's Department of the Navy. :D

Thanks, folks. Just wanted to make sure someone wasn't being a poseur.

You just never know these days so it's best to check.

Ahhh what's the only part of an apple you wouldn't eat? Da Corps.....:)

Tony,
Women have been allowed as NFO's on all VQ (EP-3 E-6B) for as long as I can remember. They weren't allowed on P-3s until mid 90's as it was considered a combat aircraft (YEAH BABY)

Did that restriction include EP-3s too?

I'm not holding high hopes for this relationship if you're checking background info for truthiness. ;)

Who said anything about a relationship? I just was doing some background checking on someone and when I saw that in her work history, I was like, uh...interesting. I need to verify this.

As Ronald Reagan said, trust but verify.

You make your prospective gf's fill out a resume? ;)

Dude. It's the internet. I can make any assumption that I like and when three others have bought in to what I've stated, well, it becomes the truth.

Live with it.

:D

You know, I suppose you could say I would be entering a relationship with this woman. Just not the kind everyone thinks I'm entering.

A business relationship and a professional relationship definitely qualify.:p

Giggity, giggity, giggity.

Can you tell I'm bored? The snow is coming down at a rate of 2-3 inches per hour, and there isn't a damn thing to do!

I believe women were allowed into combat jets in 1993/94, and all other airframes much earlier (1970's-ish)......E-6B would fall into this category. EA-6B (similar name, very different aircraft) only allowed women starting in the early 90's. EA-6A's allowed them somewhat earlier as they were not deployed in normal carrier air groups, but rather as stateside electronic aggressors. First woman Tomcat pilot (who ended up dying behind the boat during CQ) was an EA-6A transition from the late 1980's
