A little perspective

Thank you so much for a well written article. Anthony C. Johnson (MA2) is my cousin. Even though tears welled in my eyes as I read it. My heart swelled with such pride. He was more then a dedicated soldier, he was a dedicated American. Loved and respect by many. I thank you for putting in perspective what life and living is truly about. Rest in Paradise Anthony. I love you.
My heart goes out to you. Anthony was part of my family for just a short time. However, during that time, I enjoyed his humor and wit. I was fortunate to have spent Christmas with him. He was a wonderful man who was trying to improve himself for his little girl. I hope you and your family will keep in touch with us even though Anthony is no longer her with us.

I'm happy I was able to bring at least a little warmth to your loss.

I was able to have a really good chat with his friend MA Stafford as well who was his escort.

I can tell Mr. Johnson had a lot of love and friendship surrounding him throughout life.

Great post Doug and a good reminder about perspective. I had my perspective "moment" several years ago. The military escort officer on my flight shared this story with me: A soldier and his unit had stumbled upon a village in Afganistan where everyone had been slaughtered by bad guys. A dog, whose family had been killed, wandered about in search of food and shelter. This caring soldier fed the dog and they became instant friends. The two of them became inseparable through mutual adoption. While on a mission sometime later, the soldier was killed. His body was now being loaded into my cargo hold to take him home. I walked down to the ramp with the military escort and was overcome by emotion when I witnessed a dog crate with this soldiers dog in it being loaded next to his coffin. It seems that this soldiers family had asked to have the soldier's dog returned with his remains. I remember looking at the eyes of this dog and seeing the hurt and pain that he was obviously feeling. I was so touched I literally cried. It was a quiet flight to say the least.

You're right Doug, we need to be reminded from time to time about what's important in life, and what's not.

Couldn't have said it better myself. @Derg this website has been indispensable if not the most important in terms of learning about part 121 flying and the industry as a whole. It's offered irreplaceable contacts and I hope I can start truly contributing to jetcareers the way it has helped me.
