A/FD with subscription

Ain't nobody got time for that
Ok, so recently I ran into this older gentleman renting a plane from the school I train at.

He showed me his A/FD and I instantly loved it, it was basically a mini binder (maybe 2-3 inches thick, maybe 5 inches by 5 inches).

The cool thing about this A/FD is that it was the entire US and not just a section AND that since it was a binder, you have a subscription where you replace pages and not the whole thing.

Does anyone know what the name of the company that makes this is? I would really prefer this than the green book.

thanks

I don't know the name of it, but I've seen a sample of it and the order forms sitting on display at many FBOs. I'd either stop in to some in the area on a flight, or call around to various FBOs and ask about it. It does look pretty handy.

I didn't even think to call FBOs. Thanks!

(I feel stupid for overlooking that)

If you guys find the specific company that makes these A/FDs please link it. This really interest me.

I have the same one that is shown in the link, but for the western US. It's a verry handy thing to have. I would highly recomend one.

It's not an "AFD" only the FAA produces an official AFD. But it is very good. I used it for years before stopping my subscription when I found it to be redundant to information in my GPS.

The company that produces it is here. They are even changing the format a bit for their 50th birthday:

gotcha. this has to be the one I was thinking about.

I just like to have things in paper because technology (GPS) can always be destroyed by something as simple as water. So while I love using GPS, I like to have a backup and this really helps

Was it maybe an Acu-Qwik? Not as much information as a flight guide but very handy for determining what services an airport has.

Just keep in mind that it is not updated nearly as frequently as the AF/D is, so it doesn't really replace it.

I have one and like it, though. Convenient for planning.

Flight guide is great! I used it before, the layout is far Superior to the AFD IMO.
However, as was mentioned it is not as current as the AFD. Flight guide "updates" could already be +50 days old when you receive them. So just be aware having another "legal" AFD on board is smart to do.
