A day in the life of a 90 day career pilot student

I can't speak for Heath, but I guess I can answer some of your questions...

2. Did you take all your written before start ACPP?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you have all of them done, that will leave you with more time to study and concentrate on other stuff.

3. What books I should study before start ACPP(beside Jepp instrument/commercial & written, ATP yellow book, POH)?

[/ QUOTE ]

You definitely want to know the Supplement they send you, that little booklet is very important and has a lot of information!!

Heath, just a few questions.

1. Which location would you be instructing?
2. Did you take all your written before start ACPP?
3. What books I should study before start ACPP(beside Jepp instrument/commercial & written, ATP yellow book, POH)?

1. I'm currently instructing at JAX, awaiting a position to open up at ATL.

2. No, I showed up ready to take the instrument and instrument instructor exams on day one, like they ask you to do. You can take them early and be that much ahead, but it's not at all required. As long as you show up ready for the instrument, you'll be on schedule.

3. Read the Jepp instrument book and/or the FAA Instrument Flying Handbook to prep for the instrument exams. Know the yellow supplement stone cold, particularly the After Takeoff Checklist, Gear Down Before Landing Checklist, and Engine Failure After Takeoff Checklists. Know those line by line before you show up!

Best of luck,
Heath

mmm...I may be missing some pages from that supplement. However, I can't find after takeoff checklist. Can you tell me where it is on the book.

Well I just thought I'd finish the blog with the last page of the story. I was hired by ATP in May as an instructor. I instructed at JAX from the middle of May until the middle of July, when the moved me home to ATL. I worked at ATL from July until the first of September, when I crossed the 500 hour threshold and applied to Colgan Air. I got a call one day later and interviewed last week on Wednesday and Thursday.

I just found out today that I got the position as an F/O on the Saab 340 at Colgan! I'm so pumped. From a 42 hour PPL to an airline F/O in 6 months and two weeks!!!!

If you work hard you can do it!

Clear skies and best of luck to all of you,

Heath!

Congrats! That's awesome man... I am very happy for you, especially after reading why you chose Colgan in the the other thread. You might have some long days... but, Home every night with family is a huge thing!

The big question now is... when are you going to change your Avatar from the "Insurance Salesman/Financial Analyst" type pic to a First Officer pic!??

LOL, I've got a pic of a 340 coming in for a landing where you can see the pilot's face in the cockpit, I'm working on pasting my pic into it!

We'll see how good my photoshop skills are!

One question Heath, ATP states on their website that you started training with them May 2004 yet according to your BLOG you began Feb 2005. Did ATP get it wrong or are they counting the day you began your private? BTW, congrats on the job.

They got it wrong!!

I sent them an email, but they haven't yet corrected it. May 2004 I wasn't even a PPL and I didn't do my PPL with ATP. Not sure where that date came from?
