Please tell me you're kidding!

Actually I'm not Doug...

The "Dances With Wolves" movie was because we were doing a paper on the Indian Values vs White Values and how they battled. So a girl in our class requested we watch the movie. Teacher allowed it because we had finished the paper early and showed "Effort"

We watched "Pearl Harbor" because we were doing a unit on it in class. I'm not sure why we did though, I suppose it was because it was Middle-School and we had nothing better to do?

[/ QUOTE ]why don't they bring out the old black and white historicals and recount it as it should be instead of showing a movie based on a factual time in history but with a fictional account of it? a lot of "pearl harbor", from what i heard, wasn't really historical...

much less that "dances with wolves" is also a fictional tale based on history.. who knows how many facts are wrong in that movie!

As long as the movie "Pearl Harbor" was shown for basic entertainment and more of a 'love story' rather than having any historical value whatsoever, I won't fire off a heated, and poorly-written, letter to the school board!

Haha. No way, completely entertainment and nothing else. It wasn't like we wrote papers or did anything about the movie...afterall it IS HOLLYWOOD!

We seem to watch documentaries about events and I enjoy that more rather than listening to the teacher. Must keep in mind though, that normally the story is told from the winner's point of view.

Yup, we're a little famous for that. You know, the world was just a peace-loving, happy-go-lucky place until 1941! Nevermind there was a world war going on for almost two years.

Wait, well, if you look back at it, it was more or less a continuation of WW1....Well, shoot, well, you can't forget about the Franco-Prussian war. Dangit, where to start! The Hapsburgs? The "Thirty-Years" war? Post Napoleonic "Euro-Malaise"?

Aeigh! My heads going to ess'plode!

What next, Ben Affleck's "Pearl Harbor"?

I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark when he made Pearl Harbor

I miss you more than that movie missed the point, and that's an awful lot girl.

And now, now you've gone away and all I'm trying to say is that Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you.

The new series rocks.

It's about the only thing I watch on television.

But you've got to be adept at picking up on the plot twists and the creative ways Starbuck uses the word "frak".

Perhaps a new drinking game for adults? Whenever anyone says "Frak" you can enjoy a small portion of an adult beverage?

(is that above paragraph COPPA, PMRC and censor-safe?

Speaking of history from the winner's perspective... Any history buffs on here know of any good books written from the loser's perspective that have been translated in to english? I would love to read how the Germans or Japs recount the whole world domination thing unravelling...

I've never heard of any (probably too embarassing)... but I'd also love to read what they thought...

I would imagine it is taught, probably much like how we learn about the Vietnam war, or how Great Britian lost the colony of North America - I think we all have these blunders in history, unfortunately Germany has a bad streak of them.

"A chicken is a bird" to "The Germans"....

now that's an interesting segway, segue, however you spell it - you know - shift in conversational topics.

Lost the colony? We whipped your British asses, mate!
