9L, 9E, XJ JCBA executive summary

I feel bad for all you 9E guys and your "tight" schedules... this was my december.. and most of the year for that matter...

Under the New TA, I would be sitting right around 75 hrs.. holiday pay this year would prob. have put me over for the month. :)

Hehe.

I particularly like the "Well why didn't you just goto Mesaba in the first place?"
I thought it was a decent find...... Hopefully no one gets their panties in a bunch... or atleast a full wedgie.

You a line holder or reserve? Hopefully you live in domicile because that is awsome! < 400 block! congrats!!!!
<--- Jealous!

I could hold a line... but bid CDO rsv/ call me last. I normally get a week/week conflict at the beginning to drop some extra days.

Honestly, I'm not looking forward to doing more than 1 leg a day. Colgan has some decent rules in place to prevent CDO fatigue now, max of 3, require 2 days off between groups of 3. They can't switch you between day trips and CDO's unless you have 48 hours duty free notice, and you need the same 2 days if you go from day flying to CDO. You can waive it, but pretty much means if they ask you to come pick up a day trip, they have to drop the rest of your flying.

Last week they asked me to ferry to Roswell NM for paint. The trip canceled, but because I had "switched" to daytime duty I was done for the week.

I've been saying for a long time, with the current work rules, I am going to work as little as possible. If I can fly 7 hours and get paid for 75 hours, then that seems like the way to work for me :) I have family at domicile, so it's pretty easy. On a normal week, I'll be home for nearly 5/3 nights at a stretch.

I am going to be loosing this under the new TA.. but I would trade this schedule for the new TA in a hearbeat!

I think it will all work out in the end! Living in domicile makes life so much better. Hopefully you can keep living the dream:king:....and make more money!

You see January? Most guys are looking at 10-12 days off and we've still got 1800 hours of open time for CAs and 2100 for FOs system wide. We had fairly senior guys in MEM bid reserve to get a build up line because they could get more days off on a build up than they could with a regular line. I think we've gone about as low as we can without hiring tons more. Plus, if everyone had 10-12 days off with 95 hour lines, they'd HAVE to hire more or make more hard lines. No one could pick up anything even if they offered it at 500%. They wouldn't be legal. The "if we hire in the summer, we'll have to furlough in fall" was a lie only believed by those in the ivory tower over on Nonconnah. 'Course if you never leave the building to see what actually goes on, it's easy to get wrapped around the pure numbers effect, I guess.

As for the "bottleneck," we tried to tell them down in MEM that 2 sims weren't gonna cut what 3 sims couldn't cut before. If FedEx doesn't do it or they don't think of it first, it's a bad idea.
Agreed, and yeah Jan sucked for me as well with 11 days off, when I can usually hold 14-17 days off. I really hope we hire more than the "planned" 128 FOs and the "planned" 60 upgrades. Good lord, we need to double that at least! 256 new FOs and 120 upgrades at the minimum. Of course, if any management in MEM heard that, they would have a heart attack. They'll wait til the very last second. Remember back in 2007, NWA was fining us upwards of $1.4 million PER QUARTER for flights being cancelled due to lack of flight crews. I wonder what Delta's patience-level is, their patience-o-meter, if you will.

All this talk of days off for 9E FOs has me feeling pretty good about my line for January. Ended up with 12 days off with my junior senority (and not a build up line).

Add in the 6 hours of flying on the 31st that is not included in the bid month and my scheduled flight time for the month is high enough that I should avoid JAs and EXTs. :D

Well, to those that say soft money doesn't matter.....my current credit for the month of December with two reserve days left: 68:20. Under the new TA, I'd be at 84:30. That's just using the 4 hour min day. Might even be more depending on the reassignment/cancellation language. Thanks the JFK, I really got hosed over the weekend.

You and you're GD facts.

Honestly, I'm on the verge of getting stuck at colgan for a decent while... At this point being able to hold a line in EWR will be more important than most of the reasons I would choose to move on to a major. I'm not saying that I don't want to go to a major at some point... but that point isn't right now.

That being said, When I read the summary, and talk to the local reps/mec I am looking to see if this is something I can live with for the next 3,4,5+ years. While I would have liked to see better initial pay on the Q, it's "ok" and gets better over the next 4 years. I have to look at it like I get an 5-7% raise for the next 4 years, which is about the same hourly pay rate increase that I get from the contract Initially. That part is kinda nice. From the 10+yr payscale on, the pay is ok I think.

More importantly to me, and I hope most anybody who chooses to stay around, or raise a family while working here, are the other benefits, soft pay, and work rules. Every FO out there that is upset about the straight hourly rate, at some point your position will flip, and QOL/ rules will become more important.

If you are currently an FO here at colgan, I would expect to be here for at least 5 years, so I would say look down the road when you vote. ( Not to mention, look at what you will be leaving those who come here behind you)

I'm kinda feeling that here at 9E, too. I'm running out of goats to sacrifice for that call for an interview at B6, and who knows when other places are gonna be hiring or if I'd be competitive for them.

You're a 9E lifer but just don't know it yet! :D

That's how's I'm able to justify to myself the grandfathered pay scale that currently bothers me.

I plan on being here for another 5 years, and would really enjoy some decent work rules.

Work rules are great, but there is no reason you shouldn't expect decent work rules AND appropriate compensation. When I look at the pay scales and see that a 2 year FO on the saab will never reach the 30/hr plateau, I am very bothered. To see the second year FO raise never get above 65 cents, I am bothered. To see the scales for all props be the same for 36+ seats, I am bothered. If PNCL decides to go and buy CommutAir next year, you will see all their FOs getting the same pay as an aircraft twice the size and also the same pay as the 50 seaters by the end of the contract.

"Decent work rules AND appropriate compensation" (agreed) but at what cost? Loss of the 4 hour min day? Increased insurance premiums that negate any extra compensation? What are you willing to give up just for a few cents on the hour? (rhetorical) :dunno:

Will you be off probation in time to vote?

So the 5 dollar first year raise doesn't do anything for you? The fact that you average years 1 and 2 its a 10 dollar raise doesn't tickle you? It's the most junior aircraft and position? Should we give up a 4hr min day so the most junior person can have a buck fifty raise? Essentially second year pay is almost peak pay on the current rates. Im sure with in 2 years you can bid off the aircraft as well.

So you are upset these FO's would be over paid relative to an adequately paid Q FO? FO's at Mesaba are all paid the same regardless of the orientation of their epaulettes currently. What is the difference? I am bothered by the jealousy of certain people who don't appreciate the golden gooses eggs. I no you have no idea what a contract looks like or what it takes to get one, but it's more wore than being a 5 year old on christmas. You don't just get get get get. You have to exchange presents. Find real things to worry about besides getting better work rules and more money.

No brains, No headaches.

You don't know who you're arguing with..

He doesn't want insurance, he doesn't want X, he doesn't want Y, he doesn't want Z.. All he wants is to be a 10mo new hire and make $180.82 an hour.. It's not fair that he went to a turboprop airline that is being absorbed his an 13 month upgrade just vanished in front of his eyes..
