One of the stupidest marketing moves ever known to man. You've established a brand, the 7E7. You've got over 100 orders for it.

And now you go and change the name?

Is Boeing TRYING to get its ass kicked?

It's not like Boeing was gonna leave it as the 7-Experimental-7. Just like Airbus didn't leave it as the A3XX.

I feel ya Tony. Not very smart to change something when its working, especially its ID/name. Kinda like the Arizona Cardinals changing their starting quarterback while the team was winning, in playoff contention, and in position to take over 1st place in their division.
If it ain't broke. don't fix it!!!

I thought the E was for Efficient due to the fuel efficient design.......

Hey Mike, we need ya buddy!!!!!!

That would be a negative. The E, Boeing told us, stood for Effecient. As in it's big advantage over the competition.

Like I said, this is right up there with "new" Coke when it comes to stupid marketing decisions. But then, don't get me started on stupid marketing and Boeing.

Everbody in the aviation industry knew that sooner or later the 7E7 would become the 787. I think that the 777 was named the 7N7, until it offically became the 777. The A380 was at first named the A3XX.

With the exception of the 777, that was exactly my point.

wtf does it matter? I could care less what the name is. The plane hasn't changed. So what's the whole deal with you all saying that it's a "no-no" for Boeing....? phhf

I am pretty sure that when a company is deciding which multi-million dollar a/c they want to sink their future into, someone changing one letter in a title is not going to trick everyone or piss anyone off.

Keeping its new commercial a/c in line with their regular naming convention makes perfect sense. I am sure the marketing department for Boeing knows exactly what they are doing.

what's boeing goingto do when they run out of numbers for the 7 series? lol, there wasa 707 (i,think) and a 727,737,747,757,767, and a 777, and now we've got the

787. so after 797, whats next? lol

in terms of coolness, I think 5 sounds the best. "five o five," and so on. lol, I knew somebody would just be like "808, moron" but I just had to say something.

You should be sure that there was a 707. That was such a classic.
