787 tail strike

Thank you for the info and the pics especially. I am disappointed to hear that the 787 was not on display. I had hoped they would bring the 747-8 as well, but just not ready.

The JF-17 is interesting. Has Pakistan taken delivery of any of these planes yet? I need to look up and research the differences between this fighter and the Mirage for example. I know it's supposed to be a lower cost, light weight fighter but I have no clue as to it's capabilities.

You are correct about the flying exhibitons though. I have heard from other attendees to Paris since I used to go, that the air shows are somewhat tamer/"safer". Still Farns and Paris are marvelous shows.

I head that both Boeing and AB procured a substantial amount of orders at the show though. I would have loved to seen the Vulcan, the AB A400M (great pic! I just recently was reading about the 8 blade props on her) and to have visited the P&W, Raytheon and Thales exhibits as well. I don't know if GE had an exhibit there or not. I watched the video of the first new Herc destined for India's Air Force on the net the other day. All I have is a few pics and skant info on the net mostly to quell my desires on new aircraft. sigh

But I really appreciate your feedback and the pics. Thanks again. I have to live the thrill vicariously at this point.

Yes, the JF-17 also can be found as the FC-1. Pakistan and China entered into an agreement and yes, Pakistan has some flying.

The word is that both OEMs bank orders and hold them to make big announcements at the big airshows. It gives everyone the impression of BIG news when in fact it is often old news kept quiet.

And yes, forgot about the Vulcan. It put on a great show and reportedly the guy flying it was the guy who put the bombs on the runway at Stanley. I was told the RCS on the Vulcan is not a lot greater than the B-2 although I do not have any qualifying sources for that assertion.

The -130J is for all intent and purpose not really a C-130. It is that different. The thing that stunned me was the PR guy, a friend of mine, said all the drops are fully automated. They point and click or upload the coords for the drop and they can then put a time in the FMC. The J will arrive at that point at that time.. the back ramp will lower, the pallets will be ejected and the ramp closes.. ALL automatically. The one missing component was winds from the -J to the ground as they could influence the drop and the pallet arrive too far from the good guys or worse, near the bad guys. So.. they put steerable parachutes and a GPS receiver in the pallet with the drop location. No more unknowns. Problem solved.

As you probably know, the Pakistani Air Force is a real mix with Mirages, F-16s, former Soviet and Chinese fighters (MiG-21, etc) along with C-130s and other US equipment. The JF-17s will be built in Pakistan.

The info on the loads and drops for the C130J is very interesting. Something I had no idea of really. Marvelous innovation. (need to do more research obviously). So the 17's will be built in Pakistan? Did not know that either.

I imagine the Vulcan flight was pretty amazing. Just a helluva aircraft. I found only a few short, not that great clips of it on You Tube. But I did find one gem just now:

Such a graceful yet powerful plane. The vertical climb after intial lift (at the 23 sec mark) kinda makes me hot. lol Damn, great aircraft.

You know it's funny......whenever I see any air show, no matter my background, or experience or plane types, it makes me feel in such awe and wonder, like a little kid. Your senses are overwhlemed and challenged. I never ceased to be amazed at how far aircraft have come in just this century. It's a wonderful joy. But then I can be as easy enthused with a Stearman. Go figure.

What a stunning aircraft that paved the way for Concorde...
