787 Flat Panel Trainer

Is it just me or is that not the normal Boeing PFD? On a side note, those procedure trainers are great for learning where different switches are, but they are a pain to run flight procedures with. The touch screens tend to loose calibration (where you touch is not where the screen senses it). I kept shutting off the the #2 engine whenever I was trying to go flaps 45.

That is the Airbus.

Northwest has these for the A-320 and A-330 in the training center and they're great. I assume other Airbus operators have them, too.

The Thales FMS software in the real airplanes, however, is horrible. The new revision may have fixed some of the problems but as of this time last year there was a packet made by NWA Airbus pilots that included about 50 different anomalies and how the crew could deal with them. PFDs having a moving map appear on top of them on short final, airspeed tapes blanking out, "stacking" of the waypoints in a flight plan that created problems when on approach because it says you've got 3000NM to go and you've got to manually delete each waypoint, and typing in "90" for any coordinate at any time would freeze the FMS for the remainder of the flight.

Anyway, I'm sure the B-787 mockup will be nice and I look forward to seeing it. The HUD should be really cool!

You're right, I didnot question it, when I saw it in the newsletter.....

Strange... so they put out a piece on how great this new boeing trainer is going to be and they use airbus file photos. Cute.

The people that take photos are normally non-aviation people, they may have been told that this is what the trainer is going to look, & got it all mixed up....

Oh geez! I was not saying that it was Airbus to shoot down this thread! I just confirmed BobDducks's suspicion that it was not a Boeing. Whatever aircraft type it would be the picture they had shows very well what the new trainers look like. You could put it back, it showed the difference between a poster on the wall and these new trainers that pilots now can have.
