747, among other transport-category aircraft, ordered to receive fuel cell refits per FAA.

Interesting parts of the story:

Blakey said the new rule would "close the books" on fuel-tank explosions. "We have a plan that will virtually eliminate fuel tank explosions on board aircraft, such as the one that brought down TWA 800," Blakey said at a news conference in Washington.

Sounding as if transports have been falling out of the sky left and right from fuel cell explosions.

After the most expensive investigation in aviation history, the NTSB concluded that the crash of the Boeing 747 was caused by "an explosion of the center wing tank resulting from ignition of the flammable fuel/air mixture in the tank."he exact ignition source was never identified.

The missile maybe?

The news says military planes have been getting inert gases pupmed into their tanks for years... how prevelant is this in reality? Does your A-10 get that?

No inert gas for our aircraft, just foam inserts for self-sealing capability in the event of puncture.
