747 pilots: ULH flights, fuel load vs passengers

Just curious... looking at ORD-HKG later this month. Loads for the particular flight look favorable however I'm wondering if the amount of fuel would limit the # of passengers.

Reason I ask is SFO looks even better load wise but is less convenient. Thanks.

I don't know, but I'm sure there's a 747 freighter that goes that way....

yes, we're cass. And you'll get a meal too....

Two questions...
1) Is there a way to look up Polar/Atlas routes on line like FedEx and UPS or is it better to call?
2) My understanding is that cass is domestic only, can you jumpseat internationally on you guys?

Thanks!

Flew with an FO that JS on Polar over to Europe. He refuses to tell anyone else about them b/c he's afraid EVERYONE will start doing it. :) Said it was WAY better than JSing on a passenger carrier.

I don't know. I have access to all the schedules, but I think Nick and a couple other cats have ridden on us.

...and yes, you can ride int'l...

I rode to NRT a couple of times on Polar after 9/11 and pre cass. At that time they were one of the only cargo carriers taking anyone. You just had to pre book and send some info. It was a great ride.

As for bumping pax for weight, that depends on the airline. CX tends to plan a tech stop in that case to get the revenue on where as many US carriers will bump pax for freight and fuel. A lot of this of course is due to the fact that we can position another crew in TPE or somewhere should we need them so a stop is not that big of a deal. For a US carrier it would be more difficult since crews aren't already in Asia for many of them.

So really the answer depends on the company and their policy. What airline are you looking at?

United. Checking the way historical loads have gone... looks like they still have some usable seats left for now.

Found a backup, anyway. Would not be ideal but AMS would work since KUL is really where I'm trying to get to.

Yes, if you go on their websites you can download them as a PDF file. I dont know how accurate they are. When I was trying to get to ICN, i would IM with Polar and his schedules were a lil different than what i had fromt the website. good luck
