737 Touch and Goes from Jumpseat

Didn't fly the NGs but the -200/300/400 were SIMPLE airplanes to land. Very stable on final and with flaps 25/30 or 40, no great feat.

Who does training IN the airplane?

Actually, it was Sacramento that they were doing the touch and goes at. I'm taking a wild stab at it, but based on the aircraft, date and airports used I believe it might have been American that they did it for.

Ah, I just figured that it looked like the airport was in a big hole (the Everglades) with city lights off in the distance (Miami)

Some military operator brings an ex-civilian 737 in for touch n goes all of the time. It is painted gray with a red tail. We also get kc-135/ec-135s and c-9s that shoot approaches and touch n goes.

Surprisingly Mountain Air Cargo also does approach and pattern work at my airport with the 'vans and ATR's. Occasionally they will stop for breakfast or lunch.
 
I've seen DC-8s do touch and goes out at TOL. That was pretty cool. A few years ago, NWA would bring down a 747 from DTW and do touch and goes with it.

I can understand a training group doing it MAYBE and the military has done it for decades. But the last time I did TGs with an airliner was in the 80s when I typed on the 727.
 
Used to hear Gulfstream International in the pattern at Opa Locka for an hour or so at night when I was flying a run down there.

As was posted, that was Kent Wien, a blogger over at Gadling.com who posted that. I think he said it was from the mid 1990s when he was doing his initial 737 training at American. He's on the 757/767 now for them.

Up until I think 2005 ExpressJet used to do in aircraft training and we did it over here until we switched from Dorks to Jets in 2002 or 2003.
 
I've done touch and goes in several ailriners including the 747-400. Now that was fun.
