61.57(c) changes?

Anyone taken a look at the currency requirements for instrument flight under 61.57 (c) lately? Looks like they have separated currency requirements out for airplane, flight training device, flight simulator, and aviation training device. The way I read it, it seems that things remain the same for conducting 6 approaches/tracking/intercepting/holding within the preceding 6 cal. months using FTDs, sims, and the airplane itself. However, I am not understanding the new reqs under "aviation training device". What the heck constitutes an aviation training device? How would it differ from an FTD? I could not find a definition for it under 61.1 either...

Any news on this? Specifically, the difference between a flight training device and a aviation training device? After reading the AC I'm under the impression that a Flight Training Device is considered an Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD). It also seems kind of strange that for an Aviation Training Device (ATD) you must complete "Two unusual attitude recoveries while in a descending, Vne airspeed condition and two unusual attitude recoveries while in an ascending stall speed condition." I don't follow the reasoning behind this requirement for the ATD but not for the AATD.

Every sim/FTD/ATD/AATD I ever tried to "fly", was in an unusual attitude nearly the entire time
