61.39 endorsement

I have a student who is about to take his Private checkride. To meet the "3 hours in 2 calendar months" requirement, he has 1.3 dual in January, and 1.8 dual in February. I gave him the required endorsements and signed his IACRA app after the flight in February.

He has had to cancel a few times due to weather, and the next available opening is in April. That means his 1.3 from January will "expire", so once April is here, we will do another dual flight of at least 1.2 to bring the total back up to 3.0.

The question is, will I need to re-do the 61.39 endorsement so that the endorsement date covers the two calendar month period he is using, or is the original endorsement sufficient? In other words, will a 61.39 endorsement dated in February validly cover dual instruction from February and April?

Also, how long do IACRA apps stay active in the system? I don't want him to show up for the checkride and find that the app has dropped out of the system.

Thanks.

I would do another endorsement, preferably just prior to his checkride. That way, there's no question that the endoesement is still valid

Besides, you're both planning on doing some dual to keep him polished & proficient for the checkride, aren't you?

Where do you get the 3 hours within 60 days requirement from?

Where do you get the 3 hours within 60 days requirement from?

61.109(4) requires 3 hours of dual training in preparation for the practical test within the two calendar months preceding the month of the test.
61.39(6)(i) requires an endorsement that states, among other things, that the required "3 in 2" training was received.

In October 2009, it changed from "3 hours in 60 days" to "3 hours in the preceding 2 calendar months".

I'll do another endorsement after we fly together in April, to be safe. I was just curious if it was required.

If you look at 61.39(6)(i) it does not have the "3 in 2" rule. It states that the applicant must receive and log "training time" within 60 days. Does he still have that? Yes, so the original 61.39 endorsement is still good.

You need three endorsements, (you dont need the 61.109(4) endorsement)

1. Prepared for Practicable checkride,
2. 61.39
3. Retrained on deficient areas.

All three are still good. All you need to meet is the aeronautical requirements then he is good to go.

Thats my interpretation :)

Your #1 needs to be satisfied by 61.109(4) which requires the 3 hrs

And chances are if you don't fly with him until April, you will need the 61-49 besides the other. Seriously, I fly with them about 3 hours the week before the checkride. Might be time for them to go to another instructor that has more time.

Wow, that's a rather arrogant and unprofessional comment. What did you hope to accomplish?

You know nothing about this student's skill level, readiness, or schedule. I know when my students are ready, and how much training they need. I've been a CFI for 10 years, and I have a 100% first-time pass rate. I had to look up your reference to 61.49 (not 61-49), because I have never had to use it. Your reading comprehension is also lacking. The question was whether the original 61.39 endorsement would still be valid if some of the 3-in-2 time had expired since the endorsement was given. It had nothing to do with whether or not I would fly with him again. In fact, I specifically stated that I would be flying with him again, to make up for the expired time. This student doesn't need any more prep time; he's more than ready. It's already April; we're making up the expired time on Sunday, and his checkride is on Monday. His skills won't get rusty in only two days.

Wasn't intending to be arrogant. We do this all the time if there is a scheduling conflict and doesn't have to fly with you to get the 3 hrs. Can be with any instructor to meet this. Also 100 percent in 10 years???? Either you have friendly examiners, or you walk on water. From what I gather from your original post, you have only flown a few hours with the student in the last few months. From my experience (full time for the last 4 1/2 years with over 50 students signed off for checkrides), I don't care how good they may be, they aren't good enough.

And to answer the other part of this, 61-39 is a one time it is the 61-109 (as was previously stated by another poster) that needs to be current and within the 60 days. And anytime you would like to discuss my professionalism as an instructor, I would be more then happy to oblige you.
