6 L.A. area pilots violate presidential TFR

This reminds me of working Line Service about 2 weeks ago...

Lazy Sunday, nothing going on except a few weekend warriors in light GA. Get a phone call from Frontier Airlines Op's. First I didn't believe it because we sometimes get stupid prank calls. But ended up being legit. Apparently they didn't get the notam about Indy being TFR'd for presidential that day and was holding over our airport's VOR, low on gas, figuring out a plan B. It was a clear blue sky day so I am guessing they didn't have an alternate. So we were plan B. We told frontier we didn't have working stairs at the time and no jet-way but dispatch said a decent size ladder would do for the crew (no joke!) to sign the fuel paperwork and preflight. Long story short after we scrambled to get equipment into position, Indy got special permission to let them into the TFR afterall.

So needless to say even Airlines can make mistakes with TFR's....thought I would share that little story..

Sure, a TFR is a TFR and simple dilligence would prevent a big headache-but that list is expansive-and virtually shuts down GA in the basin and SF Valley. I suppose if you're based in Hawthorne you could just take the wings off and truck it to Torrance, Compton or LGB....

It just seems a bit excessive. Glad I live somewhere only interesting to Presidents during an election year now.

Yeah I'll agree the TFRs do in fact suck and it pretty much shuts things down here. Maybe I say this cause I fly recreationally but if it's that much of a headache I'll stay home that day and fly the next.

Yeah, but then you scramble over to the nearest uncontroled filed, and land and take off again!!! Squaking "ON" instead of "ALT".:nana2:

Aren't airlines immune to the TFR?

Aren't airlines immune to the TFR?

Depends of if the TFR specifically exempts the scheduled airlines.

I hated the TFR over Bush's Ranch. Very aggravating. One day he came into Oklahoma City. Shut down the entire area. Our flight school just told everyone not to show up today because we aren't flying. I will never vote for a President that lives in my state. And I do agree, I hate the Presidential TFRs and how they shut down the world.

I hope they get revoked. If they're not checking something as simple as a TFR, who knows what else they're not checking before they get in the air. Even if they knew about the TFR's its still their responsibility to stay clear if they on flight following.
So I guess you've never once forgotten anything during your flight planning?

And I guess you're also familiar with the exact details of every service ATC provides?
