5 ways flight schools cheat students

It's not a stick if you're using it as a pointing device, it's a pointer.
Well technically that is still a STICK that is being used as a pointing device. Just because my leg is helping me walk doesn't mean it stops becoming a leg.

Go buy a dowel from the lumber yard and then go buy a pointer from an office supply place, they are NOT the same!!

Also, once the Gub'ment calls it a pointer, the price gores Waaaaaay up...

I thought so too!

But: (a) No "The Chive" shirt and (b) No Marlboro Red dangling from his mouth.

Therefore, it's not @DPApilot

(Somewhere, Gulley is tapping out the ash from his cigarette and looks down to discover that he, in fact, is wearing a Chive t-shirt)
I actually am...

Please tell me why you have a problem with shedding light on the scams so that someone else won't fall victim to the scams?

My negative reaction is mostly due to the method of delivery. Scams exist everywhere and flight training is no different. Let me see if I can summarize it without watching it again. 1) Money on account. Never put more on account than you're willing to lose gambling. 2) Instructors won't solo you because their scamming you for money/ flight time. 3) Instructors are sketchy and they may only be there till they get the next job. 4) Schools are cutting costs with un-airworthy airplanes. 5) High weather minimums for students & renters which will almost guarantee a cancelled flight or it will to be dual only (mo money for the school). Did that take eight minutes, or use any click bait wording? Those aren't absolutes but do occur in the training world.

None of it is wrong, the delivery just bugs me. In fact, I wish there was a course at every college or a lesson plan in every ground syllabus explaining much of this. My experience in the flight school industry is like many others: started as a student, renter then instructor and mechanic before moving on, and now an occasional renter. These practices happened at other area schools, but I never saw it at my school and all of was discouraged by our owner.

I dont understand some of the hateful, negative posts here. Flight schools really do rip people off in these ways. Kudos to this guy for making a video that exposes some of these fraudulent schools.
You sure like playing the victim. I'm sure @Maximillian_Jenius has some insight on what that means.
Given your political discourse I'm guessing you use the snowflake term while infact being a snowflake when you don't get 15 likes and a bunch of agreement to what you post.

There really wasn't anything wrong with the video - guys on here just look for any opportunity to pounce on anyone with an opinion about flying.

I was a victim of some of the scams described in the video. That is what this website is supposed to be for, to help and advise others.

It's clickbaity and he paints with a pretty wide brush. I instructed to get hours to go to an airline, but I gave every ounce of myself to be the best damned instructor I could during that time. I left at 1,500 hrs and still keep in touch with plenty of students, some of which are at airlines now. I've left the airline and since got back to instructing, although not primary students.

Just because someone is a CFI to gain hours doesn't mean they don't care or aren't good at it. And, just because someone is told they aren't ready to solo doesn't mean the CFI or school is stringing them along. I used to tell students I would know when they were ready well before they would. I solo'd some people who swore they were ready but were no where near, and I also signed people off who for whatever reason didn't feel like they were ready themselves. There are bad schools and CFIs, but I would caution against any insinuation that it is a majority or even anywhere near it of schools and instructors.

Yeah but it makes the good ones look bad too. I've taken 5 new students in my school who were ripped off by Pilot mill school. 97+ hours and no solo. People call our school and we tell them to plan for 60 hours for their PPLs then they call the pilot mills and are quoted 40 hours. After spending 90+ hours at the pilot mill and getting fed up they come back to us expecting we finish them in 5 hours. Really? You were told the truth and chose the cheap route now it's biting you in the ass.

No where in the video does it say all flight schools are like that. It is just a warning. The warning might help someone who is new to aviation.
