30 King Air Pilots Needed, Immediately

I got Top Secret Clearance form Air Force, with 88 hours ME and 920 TT. Not even close to the minimum. Really want to do this!!

What I don't understand about these ISR jobs is the requirement to have a current Secret or greater clearance? Why isn't it the ability to GET ONE, especially if you previously had one in the military? Anyone know the answer to that?

Financial risk mitigation... These companies exist to make money. Don't expect them to spend more than they have to.

Just because you had on before doesn't mean you haven't done disqualifying things since then...

Do your research- Some of the companies (MAG DS, Dynamic and Avenge under certain programs) will get you one... Expect to see lower daily rates with some companies (MAG DS is a leader in pay, expect approx $75 a day less with Dynamic, about $80k a year less with the avenge intro program) as a result of the company assuming more risk and you being categorized as an entry level employee in the ISR field. Once your payback time is up, you can move around more freely between companies.

Really? To save a few bucks? Actually there is no risk factor whatsoever because once the investigation is done....no risk! You pass and get the clearance (again), or you don't. The only risk is spending the money to get it but they could easily do a cheaper background investigation and make sure you're not a rapist, murderer, have DUI's, violations, etc. and if clean, pay for the government one. And in my case, I had a TS+ clearance as a Hornet pilot in the US Navy. I am a retired naval officer. And probably the most experienced King Air 350 pilot on the planet.

And before anyone asks, I have applied to every one of them that has listed job openings. The ONLY requirement I didn't have on a few was having a current clearance. The rest, no reply at all. Kinda weird. C'est la vie!

Thank you for replying sir.

Yes really, to save a few bucks...

In your case I suspect you applying from an overseas location is also hurting you... Added costs getting you to and from work, more difficult to verify work history, not current in US airspace system, no one in the industry knows you etc. It wouldn't surprise me if the HR folks think you're a foreign national applying for the job is you don't have a US based address, phone number and email.

Whatever way you want to slice it, you're different and different makes these companies leery because it requires them to do more work/ costs them more money.

Unfortunately they probably don't think your Hornet experience is special enough to outweigh all the extra cost they'll have to put out to get and all they care about is you pass type training and arenot going to get them in trouble with the customer in theater.

I personally wouldn't leave a job you're happy and move half way across the world just take a regional Job or other job you're not thrilled with while you apply for something you might be interested in here.

Have you actually contacted any of those companies by phone, spoken to one of the chief pilots about your application?

What I heard from a friend who did background checks was that it was not the cost, or the likelihood that someone would not pass, but the time involved. He would submit a background report on someone and a decision would not be made for months and months. But, I am personally not familiar with the process.
Good Luck!

As of about a year ago, the feds were extremely backed up with SSBI's…..I heard some were taking nearly a year. Granted these companies surely clear a healthy profit, but a clearance investigation is not exactly cheap. As a former Hornet guy, I am sure most of this is familiar to you, however this article does have a bit of expanded info about the process, as well as C's + D's that might be relevant to the question you had. Not sure when you retired, but if 5 years ago or less, your TS is still "current", and 10 years is current for Secret. It sounds like in either case, you would need to fill an SF-86 and find a sponsor (i.e. employer).

Hey Kila, I talked with you a bit on IG some time ago. Anyways, I'm currently going through the the clearance process. I submitted my sf86 form in Feb, just finished my interview and am currently waiting 4-6 months to hear anything back. The company I'm looking to work for is supplying the clearance, now I'm sure there will be some sort of requirement to work if it goes through, but it's not out of pocket for the employees.

But going through the interview I quickly came to realize the whole thing was just a big verification interview. He wanted to know people that could back up my jobs, where I lived, family members, ect. So living abroad may not help you out any but you never know.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Retired 13 years ago. The first one I applied to sometime ago, I did try to call. None of the others. I know the process takes time, but you would think having a previous one would simplify the process. Anyway, not a big deal. Wifey doesn't want me working over there anyway lol. Looking for another corporate gig somewhere.........

If you are lucky, all your old info got populated into their new online system (which was compromised a while later making the news headlines). When I had to submit for a periodic re-investigation a few years back, our intel O told me that I would have to do an online SF-86……at which point I nearly choked him out because we were on deployment and I would have to do it using boat internet. Anyway, once I actually got logged in, it was super quick, and since my previous SF-86's populated most of the info, it saved a bunch of random emails to people trying to recollect dates/addresses/people/etc. It also minimizes the amount of stupid questions during your sit down interview, because you didn't have minuscule details conflicting with previous investigations, like dates of residency at a specific address or other stuff like that.

Roger that. Thanks.

yes I'm very late just saw this post, are they still doing contract work OCONUS or does anyone know? any help or contact info would be helpful, just don't want or waste people's time. Hardly any multi time but lots of turbine time and helo rating. military aircrew enlisted retired. thanks for all and any help. I did see the e-mail address just wondering if it's current.

Contracts change hands all the time. OCONUS contractor work still exists...

When I communicated with Viking Group they referred me to MAG...

With your background, a Pilot 2 position at L-3 or ab initio position at Avenge Might be appropriate. Do you still have a clearance?

thanks for your input, just wish I had more multi but I was hoping flying right seat would be a little easier on multi time, I have applied L-3 my 8k + crop dusting hours don't seem to help, lol
had a TS expired now ugh what a pain to pick it up again.

Get To a regional, hit the wickets, then apply. A clearance is a requirement for the SIC gig at L-3. If you meet the pilot 3 mins they are more flexible on that. Or apply to Dynamic aviation once you meet their mins.

With that experience, look into a SEAT job. That pays way better than going to the sandbox.
