30 hours of ME PIC on eBay (310)

Fellow in NY is fixing to tour the US looking at aircraft in a Cessna 310 and is looking for someone to foot the expense to gain the PIC time. He apparently is also an MEI and will make it dual if you don't have your rating. He seems to have some flexibility on routing. His opening bid of $3900 for 30 hours sounds a bit high to me but this might work for someone and you can always offer less through the eBay "ask a question" function. Just copy 180554220509 to the eBay search box to find the item. I have no connection.

Actually $3900 for 30 hours of 310 time will not even cover his expenses... maybe the gas. This seems to be a pretty good deal for someone without the MEL or for someone who is low time and needs the hours although you would need to investigate more.

His "buy it now" price is $6000, or $200/hour. From the cockpit photo, it appears the "IFR approved GPS" is a KLN89B, backed up by a Garmin 296.

I've paid slightly less than $200/hr to fly far uglier twins than this one, but I don't see paying $6k up front for a flight that, let's be honest, might never even happen.

I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole.

Buying non-tangible asset on eBay coupled with an employment market where an extra 30 hours of ME doesn't exactly knock your resume out of the park for the risk incurred? NoooooOooOOoo thanks.

thats not a bad deal... i'd be asking questions before hand though... can we do single engine work? will you actually train me for the MEL? something like that.... its not for me, but it would have been a few years ago...

I only have 100 PIC time but I have a ton of "eBay time" - 6000 transactions including my last 5 or 6 vehicles. So let me give you my take from that perspective.

The seller seems a reputable seller of aircraft parts on eBay and is not likely to risk his reputation by screwing you over in the sense that he steals your money. Based on his feedback, I would not hesitate to give him the $500 deposit. Whether I would pay more up front is open to negotiation. I would have to talk to him first and get a better idea and even then I would like to hold off paying the balance until we are ready to leave. You would need to work that out with him before bidding, otherwise you are agreeing to his terms in the auction.

He seems willing to do more than just sit right seat while you fly but I imagine he will want to charge for that, but I am just spitballing there.

If this trip were around Christmas, I would probably take him up on it (though not for $6k). I expect to finish my instrument rating in October and would have time and money for this over the holiday. Oh well.

Often when I refer to "holding out" I mean "running over-square"

And by "running over-square" I mean "Shock cooling"

Kind of what I was think. Sure every hour helps but you wont see a return on this for at best a year.
