3 killed in west PHX plane crash.

The new said it was a DVT based Seminole. I guess its just a bad week for the Deer Valley people. Three days ago another seminole went down and now this.

Went down near Wittman (near Luke AFB Aux 1 area). Still gathering info.......

Geez, two PA-44s from DVT in less than a week....

AZcentral still has nadda on this ...

Although they did have a story saying that twin that went down a few days ago was a Pan-Am based Seminole.

That's two ...

Three people were killed Thursday morning when their small twin-engine plane went down near the town of Wittmann.

NewsChannel 3
The wreckage was discovered near an auto-proving ground. According to J.J. Tuttle of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, they received a call about 7:30 a.m. from a person who reported seeing a plane spiraling out of control. The witness said he heard an explosion but did not see any fire.

A sheriff's department helicopter responded to the scene, discovering the wreckage near 203rd Avenue and Dove Valley Road.

At this point, it's not clear what caused the plane to go down, and according to Tuttle, investigators do not yet know where the plane was coming from or where it was headed.

The investigation is ongoing. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been called in.

Just heard that it's a Westwind School of Aeronatics plane...

Anyone over at Westwind heard anything about this yet?

Could be ... WW uses seminoles but who knows ... almost everyone uses seminoles for multi-training.

WITTMANN - A small plane crashed into the desert northwest of Phoenix early Thursday, killing three people on board, a sheriff's spokesman said.
The plane was destroyed, apparently after going down nose first near an auto proving ground, said Lt. J.J. Tuttle, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department.
The victims' identities and the plane's destination weren't known early Thursday, Tuttle said.
A sheriff's department helicopter began a search of the area after a proving ground employee reported seeing a plane go into a spiral and then crash, Tuttle said.
The employee heard an explosion but didn't see any fire, Tuttle said

I'm a student at Westwind. I can confirm that it was one of our planes. I don't know any details right now but I'll see what I can find out.

here's an update I just heard..

It's the first "ever" crash out of the Westwind school... Westwind operates out of the Deer Valley Airport...the plane was a 98 twin-engine seminole.. with an instructor and 2 others on board.. one of them was working on his/her commerical ratings & was probably working on maneuvers at the time...

We'll have to wait for the NTSB report later.. but they say the airplane went down in a spiral with no smoke or fire when it hit ground...after seeing the video from the news this morning, it looked like an accordian and i'm wondering if they totally lost the ability to pull out of the fall?! Any ideas out there?

sad...just sad

... but it does make you want to check all your paperwork and make sure you have everything taken care of (family related stuff) just for "in case" scenario's...

Condolences to those at Westwind who knew the folks and their family/friends!

Sounds like it oculd have been a stall-spin ... spins in twins = really, really bad juju.
