3 kids fly alone to BNA...

Minors do not need ID's. When they approach the security check point, the TSA person will ask the minor a question or two. If they are satisfied with the answer then they will let them through. They have a system on this.

Sounds like a loophole terrorists might use.

Whoah man, this story potentially says "awesome!"

Do tell!

Was nothing really exotic, although is a great memory. Thanks for resurrecting the memory Mr. Taylor. Time was pre 9/11. Elderly Native American, wheel chair-bound, and subject to the standard metal detection screening. Of course she couldn't go through because of the chair. With a little bit of "diplomatic discussion" the local sheriff bent the rules and allowed her in with "photo id" aka bingo pass. I smile as I type this because that old gal and I had some cultural (she 100% indian, me 100% white Canadian) bending experiences.

I don't see the airline problem.

I don't see why the airline is at fault.

The parents are the ones who thought she was responsible enough, and gave her unrestricted access to 700 bucks of purchasing power.

I don't think much of the parents (especially after they start pointing fingers at others), but I'm impressed with the kids intrepid sense of adventure. Sure a bad, irresponsible decision, but still impressive.

This is weird... how do 3 kids under the age of 16 (not old enough to have a government issued ID) get through airport security? I thought every pax's ID had to be checked to get to the gate?

In 1993, when I was 13, I had been traveling to Dubai for the previous 2 years as a UM. I finally got fed up with sitting in the Lego room, so I started traveling on my own.

But then again, I grew up fast, heck I learned how to drive a Suzuki sidekick with a stick shift in Dubai when I was 11.

Buuuut, this ain't 1993!

They have to - not everybody has a driver's license!

Indeed! Being here in the midwest where we drive everywhere I sometimes forget about places like NYC, where a person could go their entire life without ever needing to own or drive a car!

I also didn't know there was no minimum age for a state issued ID. Just goes to show I learn something every day! :)
