2020 DX Outlook With Coronavirus

How could that be done? Even during my brief time on the desk, there are plenty of reasons you need to confer with MX, crew scheduling, or a sup about your flights. For example, if you have to verify removal or addition of an MEL, that necessitates talking to MX Control. I don't see HOW DXing could be done from home...

There’s this thing called a phone...

This thing is likely going to infect half the global population. Bbmikej can google all he wants but fact is all age groups aside from 9-0 have seen severe cases and deaths. If they don’t flatten the curve then we will have too many severe cases (of all age groups -9-0) that will require ventilation/ICU and not enough ventilators. That is what will drive up the deaths he most. And think about all of the lifelong lung problems later from this. COPD, Asthma, possible lung cancer types, ect. If you think because you’re young with a great immune system you are safe then good luck to you. I’m young with a great immune system and I’m going to do everything I can to avoid it.
I am doing what I can to avoid it also. I'm just saying that if it's inevitable that I will get it, I would rather have it early. That also has the effect that if the symptoms are severe, the medical facilities aren't inundated yet and my chances of getting good care are substantially higher.

Rumor overheard - 2 week airspace closure as early as this week.

Rumor. Rumor. Rumor. Rumor. It's a rumor. It's not a tumor!

We'll see.

How do you know he didn't START the rumor? One of my shipmates used to do that; I overheard him in the chow line saying that he'd started a rumor about X just to see how far it would get...
That was me on the ship. We'd see how many rumors we could start while on the smoke deck.

I've been on here 10 years and have, at the very least, a decent reputation.

That's not me.

In some cases, having a great immune system is what kills you. This was very much the case with the 1918-20 flu pandemic, which disproportionately killed young, vigorous people. Google "cytokine storm" to find out why.

I know all about cytokine storms. That’s what killed people with smallpox back before they eradicated it. That’s how you get multi organ failure when someone is unlucky enough to succumb to the flu.

I wasn’t saying I think I’m safe. I was pointing out that just because one says they are young with a great immune system doesn’t mean anything because this is a new virus that acts differently from person to person and nobody can say they definitely will be fine because nobody truly knows.

Honestly think I might get furloughed soon. I'm at the very bottom of the totem pole and communications from the higher-ups isn't sounding promising.

I move cross country in the very near future to start work at a new shop. I keep waiting for them to pull the plug at any moment. In an abundance of caution, I’m now forced to keep my apartment where I live currently as a fall back plan if S really hits the fan. Not really going to be able to afford to do that, but really don’t have a choice right now either...
