2015: UAL Employee Knocks Out 71-Year-Old Pax in Terminal

They are distressingly similar.

Pig-pile effect. Some people can't graduate from the playground.

Oscar better deliver some babies at FL370. Or another carrier has to top (bottom?!) United's bad luck & mistakes.

I've never had an issue with United save for one time my bags go separated from me, but only due to an extended ground delay and an change in flights...they were delivered to me the next day. United brought me home from Korea when I ETS'd out of the Army, and were pretty much the only airline I flew growing up (which wasn't often, but enough to make an impression). Call me silly, but Rhapsody in Blue still elicits that "good 'ol United" vibe from me. The airlines have definitely brought the hate on themselves for sure, but our society has regressed as well.

I saw the spirit CEO interviewed. They asked if he was worried about being the worst passenger rated airline. His response:
"I'll worry about it when they stop coming back"
UAL is facing bad PR right now but,
it. just. doesn't. matter.
It's all about price.

I just did a double take on a very affordable UAL LAS to IAD flight on Orbitz and didnt think once about them beating up their passengers. Im pretty sure they will be ok.

Sean, TSA won't detect your self-reliant personal safety habits at LAS. Probably. Not so sure about IAD baggage folks.

That's doubtful. I know my parents would visit Florida once a year and tried flying Sprint. They talked about how much money they saved and how nice it was to fly out of LBE, but something happened and they had to buy last minute airfare on another airline out of PIT. I don't know all the details, but that was years ago and they haven't considered flying on them since.

I think a lot of passengers will realize how little their contract of carriage with Spirit entitles them to and how difficult it can be to get on another flight. Once they go through that experience and find themselves out prepaid hotels and cruises among other things they'll realize that if they need to get somewhere they'll pony up for an airline with actual customer service like Southwest. As bad as the computer outages have been for various airlines I don't think I've seen anything like the fights that happened on a much smaller scale event with Spirit at Fort Lauderdale.

The scariest post in this entire thread, is you admitting to buying tickets from a secondhand site. And not the airline website. Scary!

Is that bad? I think I've bought tickets from the airline site once in my life

Oh I have heard horror stories...

Not only that, but the flights are super inconvenient. You leave at odd hours, and make 50 million stops. Less options. A friend claimed that there was a cancellation with whatever airline he and his gf flew on. Airline was genuinely at fault. He claims that everyone who booked through the airline website got vouchers. They didn't. The reason, according to the gate agent, because they booked on a third party site. Not sure if true, but that's what he said.

No thanks, I like options. Maybe a bit higher prices, but I always book on the airline website.

I've always looked on the airline webpages and always find the same flights just for a lot more money. I've gotten vouchers before too for being bumped (only happened twice and once was a volunteer)

I can tell you that booking a hotel on Orbitz versus directly with the hotel IS a lot different.

The third parties, if you're not careful, will build unrealistic connections on various airlines. I can't tell you how funny it was flying PHX to JFK when a passenger, even though we're running about 20 minutes early, would bug the hell out of the flight attendants about her 20 minute connection to fly to Rome… on American. And if there's anything we can do (like quantum physics) to get in earlier.

And Orbitz loves connecting nearly every UAL flight through ORD with 30-40 minute connection times. :bounce::bounce::bounce: They might as well say "Once you land you will need to walk 5 blocks north then take the train 2 blocks west"

The Delta site wanted to send me through ATL for my one-way TUS-PHX flight. :)

Call me weird but I have flown Spirit and Allegiant. Also VIA and plethora of other companies to include Uzbekistan Airlines, Spirit and Bahamas Air.
At the end of the day, it's just about getting you from point A to point B. Service depends more on the individual employees than the company mission statement.
So it's all the same.
Unless we are talking yummy airline food, but we aren't.

I hope you like ice machines!

Yup! Even when I booked blocks of hotel rooms for NJC, the rooms you'd receive on block were going to be vastly superior than the Orbitz crowd. You're literally paying for not-yet remodeled rooms, ice machine rooms, elevator rooms, room in areas near undesirable blocks (like a crap-ton of high school kids there on field trip or something like that) and rooms that there were a number of not-yet-addressed issues.

I always book hotels directly. And if you can't find a price close to what you see on Orbitz, call the front desk.

I use orbitz for hotels A LOT and unless they are designing hotels to sell "orbitz rooms," it's still a hotel in the end. The trick is to not get mad when you see someone that has something that you don't. I have also done the same thing as SeanD and have found that I can see the very flights that I found on the 3rd party website, on the airline's website. The 3rd party is really like Dewey Decimal System for airline tickets. Ok, bad analogy. All of my elementary school librarians were red in the face, trying to boast how awesome the DDS was, but it still had to be taught, whereas you can literally figure out orbitz without any help. But you get what I mean...

Crew rooms. You could have said, "You end up getting a crew room."
