2009 SAMA Conference & Career Fair

They updated the career fair attendees. Looks like two more companies. Not a bad turnout considering the economy, even though most of them are not hiring. I would like to see Compass, Ameriflight and a few other 135 companies attend.
and back to the subject; i would also like to see more 135 companies attending. that is where i would like to go so to see more would be nice.

I was going to do the footwork and get my company to bring one of our aircraft up, but I digress.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it up go GFK. Anyone who attended want to share what the outcome was of the conference? Turnout?

Turnout seemed to be okay. Skywest and Cessna had tables, but failed to show up. Biggest crowd by far was for Rod Machado. Smallest crowd I saw was the 12 for the alumni panel. Overall, seemed like a decent turnout with a lot of people looking at the few companies that were here, like Mesaba, Great Lakes, and Cape Air.

Rod Machado would've been cool. I remember my dorky MS Flight Sim days w/ Rod's robotic lessons.

Well, there were a bunch of non-flying jobs available, but for flight positions, everyone is now into a pool. So I think "hired" is too strong of a word. Was it positive, absolutely, considering how bad it was for aviation just a month ago!

Pool? For what companies/positions?

Great Lakes and Cape Air were actively taking resumes for fall class dates. I guess they prefer UND guys when the hiring starts again. The rumor is Great Lakes have enough flying, but not enough aircraft, so that's the lynchpin. Horrible pay, but right now, it's neck and neck with flight instructing. Except you get great interline rates at Great Lakes, but not as a CFI.

that depends unfortunately. and no paid training, no paid ride to interview.....

GLA asked me to interview last june with them. Had to buy my own ticket+hotel. Plus the dumb contract...who know i guess flying B1900 is much better than a Warrior.

Good luck to those interviewing!!!
