If you can't handle the crap that comes early on with this career then get out. People are so sick of the negative.
Are there things with this career that suck? Of course. I could definitely find things that suck about a career with law, accounting, admin assistant, ect. I have friends right now working 100 hours a week during residency, or a few buddies putting in 90 hour weeks during busy season (accountants).
There's good and bad with everything. Internships are usually a positive experience, I know mine was.
Please, stop littering this board with crap. People here are sick of it.

thanks for the insight but yes, i dealt with it, and got the F out of GFK.
i really enjoy my job now, and enjoy the people i work with and the company culture.
couldnt say so much for my time at UND.

It's not worth it to argue with the Aviator from Texas. He and his crew are going to be upset about everything Grand Forks. Some people are not interested in being airline pilots. Thats ok. The world needs ditch diggers too.(even if they make more than regional pilots) If people can snag an internship and make it work financially, more power to them. Especially if it guarentees that interview with a major some day. And if I were them I wouldn't feel ashamed if either their mom or dad was helping them out with money while they were in college. My parents paid for a lot of my college and I will try and do the same for my kids. To all you guys at UND right now, dust off those suits and iron those shirts to get ready to kiss butt at the SAMA conference.
Cue the English professor from Turkey to correct all my spelling/grammatical errors, lord knows he has nothing better to do.
Good advice, also bust out those gouges and start preparing for the interviews...Its going to be super competitive this year, not where near what it was like last year.

Delta will be on campus the 27th to interview. Take advantage of this and get your apps in for that internship... That's one internship I wish I'd of had the opportunity to do.
I love Grand Forks, ND alot. So much in fact I will retire there when I am done with my lifetime of flying. I also think UND is the best University ever. Because it taught me the value of putting in hard work, even in the face of obstacles, I was able to pull out of there, a soild college education, great professors with knowledge about my industry, some of the best flying weather around, and of course the best friends I will ever have and still have to this day.

. Wow.The flight training was very good (but not anymore... American kids getting screwed by Japanese/Chinese contract kids), but the University's non-aviation academic side was absolutely horrible. I received a much better education at a community college in San Diego than at UND. The weather for flying was indeed good - a perfect environment for cross-wind landing training and getting students used to negotiating safe weather decisions during icing situations.

How are the American students getting screwed by the contract students? If anything, its saving the American students some money. We were told that if the contract students were not here they would probably be downsizing here and airplane prices would have gone up. On the flip side, they are now expanding with new airplanes and the cost has remained reasonable(If thats even a term used for flight training cost). 110 dollars an hour for a G1000 C172S is not that bad...

Don't you currently attend? All my friends who are at UND say things are really tough for american students. UND was okay (not great but not terrible) last year, but it sounds like things have really changed. Not everything is about money. Students like to have quality flight training and good aircraft availability no matter what they are paying.

it seems like contracts get priority because they are nearly 50% of the schedule. everyone gets the exact same number of max launches a week, there is no priority to contracts, like i said, they just happen to be nearly 50% of the flying. w/o them UND would be losing instructors and aircraft and prices would have gone up substantially.

Not to get off the topic again, but I'm with Buick on this one. I've been Mx'd with my contract students just as often as I have with my undergrad students. Yeah, the airport is busy and there are a lot of airplanes going through maintenance so someone is not going to get an airplane. It happens to everyone. It's not detrimental if the student and instructor communicate with each other. It's not going to work if you count on scheduling launches at the last minute. Some prior planning is required. If the same student is Mx'd over and over, then working with a lead instructor or dispatch can help. Everyone is affected the same way. There is no priority.
Now back to the topic:
Last I've heard, there have been a few more companies jump on the bandwagon for the conference. I saw the list last week, but I do not recall who was new. I'll mention a website update so everyone can see the new additions.

They updated the career fair attendees. Looks like two more companies. Not a bad turnout considering the economy, even though most of them are not hiring. I would like to see Compass, Ameriflight and a few other 135 companies attend.

Not sure who go the email form Dean Smith about the contract students. It basically says that they should not be referred to as contract students as they pay tuition for each class they take and attend a classes just like Undergrads. They are exactly the same as except they dont have a full class schedule. If we look at it as a whole, there is just a lot of "students" right now and those problems are bound to happen. There was however one incident where an undergrad was bumped for a japanese student doing a checkride with a Japanese examiner who came here from Japan. :yar:
